I have been thinking that prepping must also include keeping my valuables safe and sound. so I'm concerned with choosing the right safe that help me with this.

That's a good one. My Aunt once had 17 thousand dollars in the bottom of a barrel of goat feed once.I keep dog food in a 30 gallon plastic barrel ,,,,,,,,,,,as long as the item you want hidden is small put it in a zip lock bag and bury it in the feed,,,,,,,,,,,no one will look at the barrel more than once
I looked up instructions on making a security can, cutting the bottom off with a safety opener, and how to put a screw bottom on, etc. Here is where I found it, I think I will give it a try.False bottom in a container, hollowed out leg on furniture, even the old false floor board. There are some websites about hiding in plain sight.
Read "The Purloined Letter" by Edgar Allen Poe.I am a fan of hide in plain sight. I have enough trouble remembering where I left my keys, much less where I buried the good stuff.

Considering use of a galvanized garbage can(the nastier the better), cut the bottom out, put it over the safe, place a round of wood over the safe and insert a black garbage bag and just use it for trash or fill it with rags. Will have to see how it looks and if it will fit. I like the ideas so far.
I used to see them in stores. I’m sure there are still cheap options on line. I remember seeing shaving cream, cleaning agents, and a few other non conspicuous mini safes.I looked up instructions on making a security can, cutting the bottom off with a safety opener, and how to put a screw bottom on, etc. Here is where I found it, I think I will give it a try.

Lol. I just found a 9mm I hid in the kitchen behind some recipe books. I was wondering where the damned thing was for two days when it came to me in a flash earlier today! I guess it wouldn’t have done much good if I forgot where it was so it’s back to under the mattress again.I am a fan of hide in plain sight.
