I understand food, fire making, med supplies, etc.
I'm a firearms person, well experienced and trained.
Many are not and I understand that, but those that aren't and own
firearms need to give consideration to becoming proficient and SAFE
in the use of arms and deadly force.
I'm primarily addressing securing game for food.
At this time I had at least 15,000 rounds of .22 rim fire ammo.
I feel .22 r.f. ammo is most useful of ammo.
Center fire hand guns 100 rounds per gun.
Rifle (center fire) 100 rounds per gun. ( 5.56/.223 600 rounds)
Shotguns the same, 100 rounds per gun.
I even have several pounds of Holy Black powder for the muzzle loaders
but front loaders are NOT survival weapons unless it's all one has.
A 6 shot cap 'n ball revolver can be a formidable weapon.
Just askin' opinions. I learn a LOT her.:D

100rds of rifle ammo is gone pretty fast in a defensive scenario.
I'd bump up your rifle rounds up to 1000.
Here s my short term storage:

I used to think 100 rounds was a lot before I started competing in IDPA. You'll go through 200+ rounds in a match. Practice sessions are 100-200 rounds, and to really compete you need to practice often, so you can easily go through more than 1000 rounds a week.

it depends on what the gun is used for,my rabbit gun I like to have enough on hand for 2 full hunting season 300 to 400 rds my deer rifle at my age 100 rds will make the rest of my life,it all changes in a SHTF situation I can never have enough 223 ammo or 45 acp 00 buck I would like to have 1000 rds or more,,,lets make it simple how much ammo would a full size pickup loaded to the hilt carry,,,,that would be a good start

I maintain a healthy number of ammo for each firearm and always adding more. I don't purchase plinking ammo, we practice with what we utilize for hunting and defense!

As far as the original OPs question. One can never have to much ammo, if one can afford it buy it ....don't set minimums though don't make it a priority from more important preps.

Hummmmmmmmmmm?????????
Paranoia?
Well I suppose a lot of non prepper folks would call us paranoid.
Kind of like pre-Pearl Harbor or pre-911, or pre-New York, or pre-Orlando,
or pre- WTC, or pre-Paris, or...............................................

We get that but our country is soooooooooooo full of snowflakes. :(
What is our next real threat?
Wow, a tough question as there are so many.
I'm not too afraid of the collapse of our infrastructure (yet) but I am concerned
about several other things.
Fat li'l Kim, Radical Islam, a known and demonstrable enemy of the free world.
Perhaps our own gov't IF snowflake libs get in another position to disarm us.
(unlikely I hope)
Local weather disaster is always possible anywhere.
CRIME. Criminals can strike anyone anywhere and I've seen so much.
Things that should never happen to anyone that happened anyway.
64 year old grandma' working alone night shift at a gas station.
Beaten near to death, robbed, and raped.
Retired school teacher in her own home beaten, stabbed over and over with a
pocket knife and raped while still very much alive slowly bleeding to death.
More that you really don't want to read about.
Be afraid, be very afraid, but not paranoid.
Why we are preppers isn't it.
P.T.S.D. anyone? Five years in psychotherapy so I could finally process and deal
with it all.
Awful.

My thoughts on this is the more you have to shoot, the more you're being shot at. You can only get shot at for so long before something hits you.

I would only use a weapon in a worst case scenario last resort type situation. I believe it's best to avoid conflict at all costs.

If someone were in a hypothetical sustained gunfight their chances of survival would diminish quickly.

I would store ammo for different reasons, one being price hicking/future availability.

On the other hand one can shoot at you for only so long before you shoot them.
Just sayin'.
There was a time when I was pinned down by rifle fire for almost 3 hours.
I made me as small as possible behind sufficient cover till a tear gas launcher was
brought into play.
Gassed 'em out.:D
We couldn't return fire as there were hostages.
Unfortunately the guy with the gas launcher used a burning grenade that rolled
under the stove against the main gas line.
oooooops.

The house went down in flames in minutes.
Wasn't my house.

did yall at least have a cookout.? or did yall break out the marshmallows and coat hangers?.. LOL
