I have raised chickens and have been tempted to get ducks as well. I visited a friend who had them and they actually seem a bit messier believe it or not. The need a water source not just to drink but to dunk their heads in as well. At least this is what I have heard over and over. They do produce just as many if not more eggs but the seem to need more maintenance.
We've got ducks as well as chickens. We raised the ducks with the chickens and now they think they're chickens. The drake even tries humping the hens. I haven't done anything different for the ducks than I do for the chickens. The ducks go back to the coop each night with the chickens. They don't roost or lay eggs in the nest boxes, but other than that they aren't much different than raising chickens in my experience.

I've never kept chickens, but I've been tempted by ducks.

Ducks seem healthier than chickens, and more adaptable. I've eaten duck eggs before, and I like them better than chicken eggs.

Has anyone here kept ducks for eggs? What does this entail?

Muscovy ducks are all over the place in Florida. In restaurants, they call Muscovy duck 'Barbary duck', and is delicious if it's cooked right by a skilled chef.
We have a few ducks now and the wife just ordered more. Right now we have fawn and white runners. Funny looking critters. The stand upright like bowling pins. They started laying eggs a few weeks ago. The wife ordered more ducks as well as meat chickens and some replacments for her older hens for June delivery. Like I said in another post, we don't treat the ducks any different than the chickens.
One thing about ducks is they don't scratch and ruin the garden or your landscaping like chickens do. Some ducks are excellent foregers too.

From what I hear drakes do not discriminate. They are Equal Opportunity humpers. LOL

I tried raising two ducks in with about 8 chickens and they would peck at the ducks constantly. They were the same age too. I ended up having to separate them. The ducks were fine but I’m guessing the chickens were just prejudice.

I've heard things like this . . . that chickens have a pecking order, and ducks try to socialize and bond with everybody.

I've seen ducks that seem like they're best friends with golden retrievers, and there's a segment on 60 minutes about a little girl and her pet duck that are inseperable.

I have Khaki Campbell Ducks and also raised them with my chickens. Because I have a very wooded property with lots of oak and hickories I had a slug problem. Therefore I allow my ducks to free range around the property more so than the chickens. Slug problem stays under control and they are not nearly as destructive to gardens and beds as chickens or guineas. They can e a little noisy when people or dogs come around though. Kind of like geese but not as bad. Lay more than a chicken.

We had some khaki campbells before. I'm not sure if what breeds the wife ordered but I think she got some khaki campbells this time too. We just have some runner ducks now. They are fun to watch, just like little commedions. And they answer me when I call them. Unlike chickens they don't mind the snow.

Food scarcity will increase over next few months, extreme food shortages in certain areas (like eggs), disrupted supply lines.

Rellgar I think this is already happening in many rural areas. The city people swarmed through and we have never really restocked. I think that eventually there will be no supply in the grocery store. As it is grocery stores in our area are only opening half a week and with reduced hours. There is also a huge problem with price gouging in the small grocery stores in isolated communities. I have gotten so many calls from people wanting to know if I will sell my eggs.

There are seed houses that are no longer filling new orders because they are so backlogged. A major fruit tree grower just cancelled an order that I had on the books almost 5 months ago. I hav to wonder if he got a better price somewhere else and refunded my money. I think if you do not have a seed stash it is almost too late. What few spring plants there were locally have disappeared.

Baby chicks are sold out everywhere for months.

Canning jars, lids and freezer bags are now disappearing out of stores at an alarming rate. Freezers are in short supply.

Any person foolish enough to be left holding dollars when the music stops will lose everything. Dollars will become worthless. Peter Schiff has been right all along.

There has been a big closed sign on one of my banks since the first of the week. ATM is open but seems to have a problem with staying stocked with cash.

Social chaos, rioting, armed looting, organized “flash mob looters” will hit commercial establishments, pharmacies, grocery stores will be targeted and cleaned out

This I think is what my area will see next. I haven't seen a policeman in weeks.

Slowly we are seeing more and more of this come to pass. I am so thankful that I prepped. Always nervous about it being enough but I will never stop.

Looks like somewhere in Montana they are now taking prepping and self isolation seriously, the gate is the entrance to the drive on their property. Wish i could
