Canned 14 quarts of mustard greens Saturday, froze 2 gallons of cut up rhubarb in vacuum bags for crisps and cakes. Still freezing asparagus spears but will quit picking soon. Strawberries should be ready to start picking in the next few days. Green beans and squash seeds are up. Green peas are loaded with blooms and pods. Stay safe

I sure wish I could grow rhubarb here. . . My grandma made the best pies with it. Oh that brings back some memories. :)

I got some new tomato cages yesterday, bigger and thicker. Several of mine we’re getting kind of beat. I finished the weeding, fertilized, mulched some more and replanted the thin spots in the gardens yesterday. Nothing in the main garden is near picking but in the greenhouse I still have lettuces, radish, spinach and the broccoli is nearly ready. Been picking collards for a while too, just wish I could cook them as well as an old fat southern woman! Mine are ok but not outstanding like some I’ve had. I also dammed the first creek here to make a small waterfall feature. I wanted to hear the water sounds next to where I am going to put a table and chairs. I also finished digging out the last of the enlargement of the third pond. I still have the dirt to scoop up and bring up as fill after it dries out a bit. Lastly I scraped and leveled an area I had cleared recently near the pond. It’s mowable now. Oh, also weed eated the blueberries which are on a steep hill and it’s hard to use even a push mower there. The bushes are loaded with more berries than I’ve ever seen on them this year. Having the time to maintain them really does make a difference. Also we’ve had a lot of rain this year but I’ve watered them between the showers as well. It’s really good to see projects come together here. Happy Memorial Day everyone.

What I got this morning minus 1 fish as because it was eaten on and given to the pigs and a mess of turnip greens that I already cleaned and put in a lot for dinner tonight. Going to go ahead and make dinner early since I will be going into work tonight. I will get it all processed before work except for the cushaw, butternut and spaghetti squash.

going to be cutting up a roast to make beef tips in the crock pot, butternut squash, turnip greens, rice and maybe some cornbread for dinner. Better get going if I want a nap before work tonight. . .

Wow look at you! Good job

Mowing, more weeding and mulch are on my agenda yet again for the gardens. With all this rain the weeds have kicked in to overtime. On a great note the grass seed I planted last week are up. All this rain really helped that. Planted some tomatoes yesterday. Stay safe

That 1 fish should have been cushaw. . . How auto correct got fish from that is beyond me. .

I’m beginning to think it will never stop raining here. I managed to weed eat the ponds, blackberries and grapes this morning before it started raining and I got ran inside. Can’t say I’m complaining and am kind of taking it easy right now. Looks like all the plants are loving the extra watering at least. Saw some blooms on some squash plants today! Am eager to start bringing in some produce from all this work!

that was me trying to weed inbetween rain storms yesterday. . . It is supposed to start back up tonight into the early morning hours. I hope I am at work by then and it will be over on my way home. . . It maybe wishful thinking on my part. Chance of rain everyday this week. Everything is loving it except my peppers. The ones I have out back in pots are doing much better than the ones in the garden. I have really been considering digging up one of my bell peppers to put out back. Think I would be able to harvest more that way.

Every year brings a new challenge. Anyone can plant seeds and water them but it takes some trial and error and skill to adapt and get a good yield out of them. Every passing year I have more respect for farmers.

It has mostly just been threatening to rain here, with a light shower every once in a while and periods of misty drizzle that are like melted snow it is so fine. I took a walk yesterday in a mist. I took an umbrella, but realized that the stuff was evaporating as soon as it hit me, so I closed the umbrella and just walked through the mist.

The wife started planting some pepper, squash, tomato, blackberry and grape plants today. Plus a couple apple, plum and cherry trees.
We had snow and frost just a few days ago but now it's turned warm and dry. Its probably in the mid 60's today and 70's predicted for the rest of the week. I think we're done burning in the wood stove finially. I need to order firewood for next winter soon.
We have an order of meat chickens coming in a week or two. Some how I need to build a new chicken coop for them soon.

Managed to get in about half a days work before the rain ran me in. Did get the mowing done while hubby spread mulch. Picked first strawberries of the season. Will have to cut down my largest fig tree. It has an attack of Ambrosia beetle. Hard to control and don't want them to spread to peach, plum an other fig trees. Will cut out and burn all damaged wood in an attempt to kill the bugs before they can spread. If lucky it may come back from the root. If not I still have 5 more trees. Flea beetle and potato bug infestations as well. Gonna be one of them years.

That really sucks, I thought my fig trees were invincible. I’ve never had to spray or do anything to them. How do you preserve your figs? I’m not crazy about eating them fresh.

I dry them or make fig preserves. Normally fig trees are pretty fool proof but there are a few pests that do them in.

Normally I use my solar dehydrator sometimes the electric one. Dried figs are expensive to buy and we like dried fruit.
I will try out some this season. After eating dried figs I was shocked at how soft and juicy a fresh fig was. It really wasn’t bad tasting, just so far from what my expectations were that I wasn’t prepared I guess. Do you season them, par boil or anything?
