We only have to look what happened to Novak Djokovic his visa met all the requirements he’d already been diagnosed with Covid 2 mths earlier and cleared the reason why the judge cleared him of no wrong doing. What did the Australian government do. They took it to a higher court and chose a different angle of the law claiming that Mr Djokovic might incite unrest with his his refusal to take the vaccine and his strong opinions about that. It was a political statement to all in Australia. It will be us who decide the rule of law. We can do that to you as well. But there may be long term repercussions for the tyranny that rules us as the anger of the Australian people is building. The Australia first party might just hit the spot come the next election

But the Sheriff is elected (in most places) whereas the police administration is appointed. For those with a Highway Patrol or State Troopers, it is worse and this is exactly the situation being described---they owe everything to the state not the local population and so are going to do what their paymasters say.
