Arctic, we are the opposite. I spend most of my Winter prepping and planning for Summer. I'm definitely not a Winter person. Of course, I have to do some planning for Winter, but IF we get a decent snow (3 in) it lasts 2 days max. I, as stated, do winterize for the critters, but it's not a life or death thing here. We have very mild temps usually.

The man who owns the land adjoining mine, passed away yesterday. I wish I had an extra $.5 million to purchase. I'm guessing his wife will move into his son's house across from them.

Thank you. They are a good family. I'm the youngest person in this area and I'm 60. All ofnthe elders have been my go tos for questions when I had a problem with anything. Many young people don't appreciate the knowledge that we elderly have.

Now you are the go to, listen a lot and only teach if asked. They will listen when they understand what you have to offer. Tell stories of how your neighbor always helped you and whet the interest of the youngins. Wish you the best. GP

It's guaranteed that we will have a cold and snowy winter. Some winter's are colder than others and some winter's we get more snow than others. About 90% of our annual precipitation comes in the form of snow, so it's critical that we get a heavy snow pack here in the mountains.
Recently I started looking for some land down in the valley at a lower elevation to winter our cattle. It's usually 10-20 degrees warmer in winter, plus they normally don't have more than a couple feet of snow on the ground. It'd be nice to have some early spring grazing too.

Funny, we don't want snow here, too many dummys don't know how to drive even in good weather. Others want more snow so they can ski. Arcticdude needs snow to survive better. Just opens your eyes to see the differences we live with and will have to cope with post SHTF....I got clothes for down to - 30 degrees centigrade. Only have needed them twice in 11 years, but at least I know they do the job. In Ft. Worth, Texas, I only saw snow a few times back in the early 70's, in Houston only once at all. Every year get a bit less and later snow. Last Christmas was green.

Finished as much of the fencing as I could today. I am about 40 feet short, but this area already has a layer of chicken wire and a layer of the nylon deer netting. I took care of the parts that are in danger of predators coming in.

I reinforced the netting over the run in case it gets heavy from the potential freezing rain.

I cannot remember having a snow threat in November. CALL GRETA The GREEN SWEDISH TEEN.

It does seem like old winter is making an appearance earlier than normal here too. We are expecting below freezing temps starting tonight with windchills in the upper 20s. That is more like February temps for us. I'll need to break out my goats blankets. The cold won't hurt them but they don't like it either. Their tails will all get tucked in. I'll be putting more hay in the barn when I go feed this evening for them. Rains start tonight and they won't be out grazing in the rains tomorrow. I'm sure they will stay huddled up in the barn.

As for my garden, the only thing out there that would get hurt were my pepper plants but those got dug up, put in containers and over wintering in a pop up greenhouse along with a couple strawberry plants and a few house plants.

Our first snow this year was the third week of September. It only lasted a couple of weeks before it all melted off. We're back to bare ground right now, although the snow level isn't much higher than we are. The forecast is calling for snow by the end of next week.

We're supposed to have record low temperatures here tomorrow night. At the BOL, it is supposed to shatter the low temp record by a good bit.

I am left handed and I have some sort of rash that has developed on it. . . have no idea from what. At first I thought maybe a burn from frying chicken fried steaks last night, but it just doesn't look right for that. I am the kind of person that says yep that hurt but you just go on and don't think about it. It had to happen out with the goats. Maybe got it caught on the barb wire. . . who knows, but it hurts

Whatever it was sent away after a couple days thank goodness. I just kept my hands washed real good.

I never bitched at all about Summer being too hot, but dang it is super cold today. The wind chill is the problem. Come on Spring.

We spend summer preparing for winter and spring startup, we order parts in the fall for winter projects/repairs/maintenance. It's a never ending circle and an enjoyable one at that.

Just read that this is only the 7th time in recent recordings that TN has had a snow in November

All I can say is it is too dang cold. . . I put on a pot of beans this morning, just a hodge podge of what we had growing last year and ended up making soup with some chicken we had in the freezer for dinner. I have only been out 3 times today and two of those were at feeding time. The other was when hunny came home from a job with the neighbor. Other than that I stayed inside quilting and working on a crochet project huddled by the fires burning. . . . 1 in the fireplace and the other in the wood stove. I have to leave for work in the morning at 5am. . . not looking forward to that.

It's going to be 15° tonight. No idea about wind chill. Had to take mom to doctor today and the wind was vicious. I would have stayed in all day too if I could have. Only got 2 eggs today and they were really cold.

My son says it's too cold to go to school.

Arctic Dude is laughing at us whiney brats who can't handle a little cold weather.
