LOS ANGELES — An outbreak of flea-borne typhus has hit downtown Los Angeles, the county Department of Public Health said Thursday. Health officials say they are investigating several cases of the disease that infected fleas can spread to humans, CBS Los Angeles reports.

This is one of the main reasons immigrants went to Ellis Island first. So the could be screened for health issues. If they posed a threat to public health, they went straight back where they came from.

As populated as the world is it is only a matter of time before some disease spreads on a large scale. Learning to wash your hands and not touch your face, eyes nose and mouth, will help go a long way to keep you safe.

the only way that is happening is to cut off my hands

This is great. Let's bring is some more "refugees" and other third worlders, unscreened of course, and see what other diseases we can get started here. Maybe someone can start a new game show called "Name that Disease".
Diseases brought in by illegal aliens that were almost completely wiped out or non-existent in the U.S. previously:
Typhus
Pork tapeworm
Tuberculosis
Typhoid
River Blindness
Malaria
Guinea Worm
Leprosy
Dysentery
Dengue Fever
Swine Flu
Scabies
Chicken pox
Measles
Mumps
Whooping Cough
Scarlet Fever
Polio
Diphtheria
Zika
Chagas Disease
Neurocysticercosis
Cholera
Morgellons

Typhus is scarey. The article doesn't mention body lice, as body lice can also easily spread the disease.

Pubic crab lice and head lice are disgusting, but they are not currently believed to spread disease.

To protect from body lice, clothes must be changed and washed on a regular basis, as body lice hide in clothes and bedding.

If typhus exists in LA, then people need to reach out to the homeless in a nonjudgmental manner to keep this disease from becoming endemic.

Just run the homeless out to the desert and hose them down with kerosene. That should take care of the problem.

once any form of serious disease gets into the UK I am going into personal isolation until it has run its course, most diseases need a human host to survive and cannot live long outside of a human body, I think the one exception is HIV.

I saw a follow up report on this and Its reaching pandemic status with the Homeless . Now mind You for the most part the Homeless consists of People that choose to live a Vagabond life and have made Themselves homeless . Note in a blackout or other disruption of the norm this could infect Anyone . Even due to Someone's lack of caution and taking it home with Them and infecting Their Family .

What do you base that on, Psalm7? Most of the sober reports I see about this attribute the majority of LA homelessness to a severe housing shortage, high rents brought on by things like gentrification, and low wages in particular work sectors. The concept of widespread elective homelessness is fascinating, especially given the risks of disease, hunger, being targetted for violence, etc. I'd love to read more on it - can you point me to the evidence you've read?

Iv spent enough time around missions that work with homeless to know most cases are drug and or alcohol related with a few that just don't want better . You can feed , clothe, help find employment and They will in many cases walk away from it when they fill responsibility . And some is mental illness .

there are all kinds of homeless people some by choice others by circumstance and some are forced into it ,these for the most part are mentally ill who have been released for lack of a better way to put it,,,,into the wild,,,,either the feds dump them on the streets for various reasons or a family who doesn't care or lack the money to keep them,,,,these are the ones I feel the most sorry for,,,,,,simply because it is not their fault they are out there

Yes the mental illness cases are bad but also a small % . Most homeless can be traced back to life choices . Financial homelessness is a tuff situation but is usually short term . This lack of housing stuff Im sure can happen very short term . Iv known a few People that have lived in a car until pay day before . In this country every community has public housing or housing assistance. If Someone is on the street long term it goes back to life choices most of the time especially in LA or Frisco where City policies draw the Homeless from across the Country .
