Personally I think the 2nd allready gives us this rite, but I too paid for it again. One note to be aware of when traveling though, not all states will recognize your carry permit. Do a little research on line before carrying to make sure you don't get any unwanted suprises where you travel.

Thanks. The instructor gave us the info on traveling through states that do not recognize the permits. 24 hour limits and so forth.

Since you're next door to me, what states should I be concerned about?

Oh course, Illinois. You can only stay 24 hours and the weapon and ammo have to be in two separate parts of the car.

I believe he said something about Florida too.

There are 17(?) reciprocating states that automatically recognize you home state laws.

I was basically interested in TN/KY because that's about the only places I drive. They recognize each other.

Here's a link for Georgia anyways. I'm good with all the neighboring states at least.

you better be able to prove the gun is yours in TN,,,,if you can not they will arrest you take your gun and you will not get it back

That's hogwash, never had that problem in Tennessee and it's not the law. Some munipalities may do that if there not afraid of a civil lawsuit.
bologna it happened to me in 2004,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,FACT

you could not give me the whole damned state,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I stay out

I don't see how that can happen. When you purchase a firearm you don't get any type of paperwork showing ownership. You get receipt at the store, but that's it. A license is not required so where is the proof?

I bought my 45 at a gun show private sale,,,,,anywhere else and the cop would have run the serial # and as long as it was not stolen I would have got it back,,,maybe without the ammo but I would still have my 45

You could have filed a civil lawsuit, I doubt it would have went that far. He liked your weapon and intimidated you, abused his power and stole it from you. He is a rotten bastard LEA
not much you can do when the thief has a badge,,,now no matter where I go outside of Arkansas if I can not prove ownership I leave my gun at home,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,better safe than sorry

Fortunately I live in a state where a silly government permission slip isn't "required" to carry open or concealed. I personally would never ask permission from the government to carry the basic tools for self protection anyway.

I don't like being on anyone's list, but figured it was cheaper in the long run than hiring a lawyer and trying to get my gun back.....

I'm sure we're all on some government list somewhere but I'll be damed if I'll volunteer for it. Unless you use the gun, how would the cops even know you have one?
