Family and friends wonder why I am so against immigration, as it currently stands. When America was first founded, the world was in the Agricultural age. Then it moved into the Industrial age. During those times, warm bodies were required. We are now in the Technology age and only high skilled workers are going to be needed. I am posting a link to an article that shows just a small portion of how technology is going to make the unskilled worker obsolete. One example is a warehouse facility that normally would require about 500 workers . This facility is being operated by just 5 workers and those five are there to fix the automation units. America must stop allowing any immigration except to very highly skilled individuals. Part of prepping in not just planning for disasters but for the changes in work forces. No taxi, bus, semi-tractor drivers, no fast food cashiers, food servers, or wait staff. No or very limited skilled tradesmen, and the list just keeps growing. Either the population stops growing and we stop mass immigration or we face huge unemployment that will eventually collapse our economy.

The U.K. is waking up. I just hope it is not too late. You guys got stuck with a lot of shitty folks. Leaches of the first order and violent to boot.

Yet another reason I decided not to finish my degree. I was going for Health Information Management, specifically for medical billing/coding. Guess what, there are already computer-assisted coding programs out there, making the lower skilled coders obsolete, leaving only those with specialization skills with a job. It's like they already removed my starting job before I even get out of school. That along with multiple certifications and continuing education credits which is double what I used to have to have when I did xray for 10 years (and they are expensive). Plus, a requirement for high speed internet, which won't be available where I am moving to. When researching that degree I did not find any of this information, until later. But yeah, computers are taking the job I was going for, why continue? /rant over

In Canada there is a big shortage of workers right now and it will only get worse as the last of the baby boomers retire over the next 5-10 years. From what I’ve noticed of all the immigrants that come to Canada is only about a quarter are even interested in working and of those few go into skilled jobs.
Automation is now part of this world and you have to find a career that adapts with the change and not one that is replaced by it.

We've got a coupon mailer facility (Valpak) not far from here, that is completely automated. Pretty much just a handful of folks work there just to keep all the machines doing what they are supposed to.

There are figures of 39-73 million US jobs at threat from automation by 2030: https://www.mckinsey.com/featured-i...e-of-work-will-mean-for-jobs-skills-and-wages. Perhaps it would be better either to throw spanners in the automation works or to develop a life paradigm and economy that doesn't rely upon standard jobs than to rail against immigrants in a scrabble for the crappy jobs that will remain.

When there are not enough jobs for a countries citizens, why in the world would you allow more unskilled / lower skilled people to enter the country? This is not a matter of social correctness but a matter of survival for countries. You cannot stop progress by throwing a "Spanner" into the works. You can mitigate the affects of advancing technology by decreasing the demand for welfare monies required to support the unemployed. Japan has a negative birth rate and will be able to deal with automation. They also limit immigration.

If you can barely feed and house your family, you do not invite additional non-contributing strangers to move into your home.

I'm sorry, but my warped brain is thinking West World or any other robots run amuck movie or book.

Even Scully and Mulder had to fight the automated office building.
