Have you made that forum post?

I have. NortherRaider raised a good point though, you get what you pay for. Still, if more of a get home bag, you won't need it for long.

Backpack - Can get these for around $10-$15 at Walmart, Big Lots, and various other places
Most other supplies, Dollar Tree, etc.

Things NOT to skimp on though - get a good knife, a good flashlight, and good brand of batteries.

so it seems the basic rule is ;practice...practice and practice..it's so easy to stay home when it's raining and wind will take your hair away..the little that's still there..but if you go out and practice in miserable weather and make do..it might be that you can make it..

There are only a couple reasons I can think of as to why people don't prep... They have their heads in the sand, they are suicidal, they are at peace with whatever happens to them, they think that all bad things on the news are fake stories created by the govt to keep them from focusing on what's really happening.

Truth is, there really are natural disasters and other issues that don't require paranoia, conspiracy theories, or foil hats to grasp. I think once people understand that, there are only suicide and complacency as excuses.

My 2¢

Personally, I've USED my preps enough in the past, to certainly warrant having them.
In fact, doing so is pretty much what got the wife on board with it.

She thought I was crazy for getting the water barrels....until we were without running water for 2 months due to a pipe leak we had to find, then fix. Likewise, there have been tight money weeks where we could bypass getting groceries and live off some stocked foods and then shop the next week when more favorable, etc.

Those are just a couple of examples. In our truck, I keep a little bag (other than my BOB/GHB) full of all kinds of things that are good to have for life's little emergencies:

OTC meds of many types (pain, cough, cold, allergy, feminine, etc.)
Feminine products
Deodorant, Body Spray, Cologne, Perfume
Stain Stick
Small sewing kit with buttons
Socks and slip on soft shoes (for times when a gal's heel may break, etc.)
Hair ties, bobby pins, safety pins
Black marker (you have no idea how many times it has come in handy)
Disposable camera
Small LED flashlight
A few of those $1 ponchos (they've come in handy a few times. at a buck each, I replace them after)
Brush
Travel Size items like toothbrush, paste, mouthwash, hairspray, etc.
All kinds of other things I'm forgetting.

This one prep made it easy to get the whole household on board. They didn't know I had made it, until one of them first needed something from it, wishing they had it with them, and viola! I pulled out the bag, and they searched it.

i have a sewing kit that i keep in the van..and it started out, what i call small..but it grew from just 1 box,to 2 boxes..and i keep diff size/color buttons and needles in it..plus i also added some more small spools of thread to it as well..i also have one of those small pocket size led flashlights.i always take it with me..i use it here at home.and on the road..

I really like this. I completely agree, prepping doesn't have to be this crazy extreme action.

I have to say some days I hate the prepper name that we all get. just 30 years ago this was a normal way of life for people. My mom always had a basement full of home canned goods and everything else that would be needed. We never knew if crops might fail, or a really bad winter would occur so therefore we made sure that we had enough just in case. But that was the way that people lived and survived. Now it's all go to the store aily and when something bad happens no one has a backup plan in place.

However I hear one thing daily that so ticks me off. People say that preppers are crazy, and that God will save them when something bad happens. I am sorry but you can pray until you are blue in the face but God isn't going to hand you a table full of food. People think that faith will save them. Ever notice how when something really bad happens dead bodies are always found in the churches??? Volcano erupts head for the church, God will save us, Quake happens head for the church, God will save us. Yeah right.:D The only one that will save me during a SHTF scenario is me, not God. Sure prayer will help calm me down a bit, but he sure isn't going to hand me free food, and T. paper.

I'v never heard any preacher tell anyone not to prepp or prepare for emergency's . The BIBLE tells us that GOD allows it to rain on beleaver and nonbeleaver alike and when part of a temple fell on worshipers the Temple leaders were teaching that they had done somthing wrong when that was not the case it was simple that bad things can happen to anyone . I wonder who all these people saying not to prepare for emergency's are and where did you hear them giving such advise ?

"God helps those who help themselves"

In fact the Mormon church makes people prepare for what may come. They are more prepared then many of us will ever be. That is why I get so ticked off when I hear people say they are doing nothing because God will save them.

Every BIBLE teaching Church I can think of teaches to work dilagently so not to be a burden on others , You are responsible for Your own actions , and to care for those depending on you . Never have I heard any Christian say not to work and be prepared for bad situations . Remember the Bible lays out alot of desasters coming our way .

isn't "lazy" one of the seven sins??
some where along the line we seem to have forgotten that..too comfy that the government comes in and saves us,we have it pretty darn good here but I don't count that in a major incident they have the resources to handle everything...

I figure the only one that will help me in any scenario is me. God will be there when I need him but only after I do my part, if I sit on may backside and just pray it sure is not going to help me to find food or water. As for the government they couldn't care less if I lived or died they care about themselves.

The floodwaters rose, but one man stayed in his house. As his neighbors begged him to leave, he replied "God will save me."

The waters flooded the first floor and as the man was waiting on the second floor for God to save him, a boat pulled up outside the window. "Hop In" said the man in the boat. "No, God will save me" replied the man.

The waters rose up to the second floor and the man got on the roof. Another rescue boat pulled up but the man still refused to get in the boat, saying "God will save me."

As the floodwaters rose up to the roof, the man climbed up on the chimney. Just then a helicopter showed up and dropped a ladder to him. He waved the helicopter off shouting "GOD WILL SAVE ME!"

The floodwaters rose above the chimney and the man was swept away and drowned.

When he got to heaven he saw God and asked "Why didn't you save me?"

God said: "What are you talking about? I sent you TWO BOATS AND A HELICOPTER!"

that's what happens when you can't understand the message you get ;)

This is so true, we had a minister years ago that had a big scar on his face and he told us the story of how he got it. He was lost in the wilderness, he had gone to Alaska with some friends to go hunting and he lost them. He stayed put finally and after the first night he prayed that God would save him and give him food. Nothing happened. After about 3 days and nights of nothing he got down on his knees and prayed that God would save him and would give him food. Out of no wheres a big salmon fell right down in front of him. He looked up to heaven and said thank you God, then as he picked up the salmon and started to walk away he saw it's owner, a big grizzly bear. He was found the next morning, and flown out. However he would always have the scars all of his life for praying for food.

One thing I've noticed is most people I've talked to just plain and simple "Never thought about it"
I like to to drop the idea on people and see what their reaction is. Whether they take it a step
further is beyond me. That's how i got my brother on board...kinda.. I've only been doing this
for about 2 years now and am pretty comfortable about where I am sitting. I tell people doing
something is better than nothing.
