Folks here will have to forgive me but I am into this Post Apocalyptic stuff and found this article interesting. Though it is not post-apoc the outcome could be.

Well, unless THEY don't see it as suicide. Still, the safe bet is that they won't. Interesting idea to war-game though.

Prolly end up just another proxy war between the US and Russia like Nam, Korea, Cold War etc. Looking at middle east I can see Iran and Israel going at it sooner or later. Russia and Ukraine looks almost inevitable, Central America WILL go tits up if the Chinese and Russians keep stiring the pot. Neither the US nor Russia want to fight a war that may see THEIR peoples and cities attacked, but they are more than happy to start wars anywhere else.

I believe cyber capability plays a big role too...I mean if Russia or the US is able to undermine the others cyber capability the whole scenario go could go bad for one or the other. I don't know if it could happen but undermining the cyber capability of either country could set off premature missile strikes....Its the "Rise of the Machines" folks we have become to dependent on modern technology and its that very technology that could be our undoing. The human race could go extinct in a lot of ways but I just don't believe its going to be at the hands of the human race itself.

Agreed. Hitler took himself out by fighting to many battles on to many fronts he got spread to thin.

Russia is ailing from lousy demographics (low birth rates), half of its 18 year olds could be muslim by the 2040's if they don't annex some european territory. They also need to stop a pipeline getting built through syria that would undercut their oil/gas. It's do or die for them, now or later. The oligarchs have decided to never be poor again, hence the nuke buildup.

Rise of the Machines.....Its happening already....That computer we are on, machines build our vehicles.......I agree its a bad idea but in the grand scheme of things this bad idea has also become a reality....We are walking right through the door of Singularity....Checkout this article by the BBC:

My wife and I were talking about this last night. We saw a commercial for he Google toy there selling now. You can talk to it, have it tun on or off things in your house for you, even check the weather, all with just voice command. Sure it's kind of cool, but it's always listening. I really don't like the idea of a supercomputer, the govt. or anyone hearing every word I ever say. I'm not hiding anything or doing anything bad, but still don't want to give that kind of power to anyone, or anything.

Too many people too many cities and too many ways in, besides, I'll take my chances on the very very remote possibility of an volcano taking me out here in the Cascades than taking my chances of all them nuclear reactors safely shutting down in the South during an apocalyptic event

The one in Washington was shut down in 1987 (Hanford decommissioned) It's an Manhattan Project National Historical Park today
