Once upon a time Cracker Barrel was rated the #1 place to eat. Now it's kind of hit or miss...get a good one, and it's great, get a bad on, it's not worth stopping. Simple meals were their specialty and they had some killer meatloaf and country fried steak.

If you ever get a chance to go to a Lambert's Cafe, do it. Food is really good (Southern comfort food of course), and they turn serving it into a form of entertainment. You'll laugh your ### off, ROFL. When we used to rent a beach house every summer on the Alabama Gulf Coast for the extended family, there was a Lambert's that was mandatory to visit (the kids would never forgive me if we didn't, LOL)

Probably should go around 3 pm if you don't want to wait an hour and a half to be seated. And whoever has the best catching skills should be the designated roll catcher (they toss the softball sized rolls to you from across the room, LOL)

Hope it’s still there after the hurricane!

Wow, sounds like fun. Been in Germany too long, never even heard of Lamberts. Went to the Cracker Barrel in Charlotte, NC, once in 2012 and was definitely happy with the food. Also enjoyed going and eating at Buffalo Chicken Wings or something like that there too. We only have normal restaurants and very few Steak Houses here. No Rootbeer, 7 Up, or Cornbread either. There is a new place called "Ketch May Beef". Good slow food, burgers and BBQ. They don't even know what a dinner roll or a biscuit is here.....GP

Biscuits and blackberry jam, YUM YUM! Blackberry jam is the only kind of jam or jelly I buy.

I guess that would be "Scones and blackberry jam" to bigpaul ;)
Blackberry jam is in fact the best kind of jam. Where I grew up there were tons of wild blackberries - I made a lot of jam. I still go back to visit that time of year just to get some blackberries. My arms will be covered in scratches and it can take a long time to get all the little stickers out of my hands. But it's worth it for the jam.

I just pulled out a large pan of Chex party mix from the oven. Was walking by a display at the store and fell for it. I substitute Fritos for the wheat Chex and double the nuts and pretzels, and add more Worcester sauce than called for.. I also replace about a third of the butter with olive oil. Why, I don’t know, this isn’t healthfood we’re talking about here. Wonderfully good snack though.
I also put in a slab of dry rubbed pork ribs in the oven. I put them on a rack inside the pan, add water to just below the rack and seal it up tight with foil. Slow cooked for about 3 to 4 hrs and they fall off the bone. I could just use the instapot and they would be ready in 30 mins, but sometimes I like old school.
I also just finished bottling 8 gallon jugs of wine from last years batch. That was the last of 2018’s. I really didn’t feel like messing with it but needed the room for this years batches. One good thing about wine is it’s very patient. If you don’t feel like doing it this week or even month, as long as it’s kept cool and dark it will be fine. I’ll have a glass with those ribs anyways.

Just went thru the pantry and decided to eat sumthin old. Take a look at the pics and also the dates I put them in the storage drums. Already tried them and they are all still good. Cinnamon, Parsley, Majorie and Rosemary plus the Rice and Crisco. Long term storage attempt. I still have bottled water that I bought for the 2012 world crash on 23 Dec. The date on the bottles in 12.23.12...GP
