yeah.that'd be something..get 20 or more ppl together as a community.and with diff
skills, and animals..now you have a pretty nice community started
I'd join in a heartbeat! The problem is, somewhere down the line somebody is in charge. Then they want to be the only one to sleep with the women and want you to drink cool aide or something. Seriously, a good group of like minded people working together would be fantastic.

hey my friend, if it makes you happy, go for it, who knows you might get some new ideas with that combo :D

Looking might fine Brent! Great job! Think I found my next contractor, lol.
I kind of miss being a contractor. I made a lot more money, but worked a lot of hrs. I let my license expire a few yrs ago, and it's a pain to get it back now days. I get offers at work to fix things for people, but I have so many projects around here that need doing. On the other hand, my projects cost me money, and there's bring it in. One of these days I may take some side work again on a small scale. Usually when I work on something for someone it's free anyways.

Hey, I drink vodka and coffee at the same time..... but in the same glass.... and it's pretty rare these days. (had to add that so no one would think I'm a drunk.)

You say that like a drunk is a bad thing! Seriously, I've heard of whiskey and coffee, but vodka is a first. This reminds me of an old alcoholic friend I used to ride motorcycles with. We were camping on big pine key one summer. First thing in the morning he hands me a glass of tomato juice. I swear there was enough vodka in it to ignite around an open flame. I couldn't stomache it, so after he finished his he drank it too. I was a preachers kid, so I've drank my share of alcohol over the years, but now days I stick to a glass or two of wine in the evening and go to sleep. That's about the extent of my partying now.,

Ok, this dosent have a lot to do with prepping, but I needed to take time off of all my prepping projects and do something for the wife. I finally finished the kitchen countertops. (Only took about four months). I had put natural slate back splashes up a while ago, and just finished the tile countertops. The tiles are porcelain and and more durable than slate, so they hold up to scrubbing better. I guess the kitchen is where I can and cook, so this has a little to do with prepping! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! It really is good to see a project come together.

That's beautiful Brent and I would definitely consider it part of prepping. Having a beautiful place to do all of your food prep makes everything more enjoyable.

Thanks, I agree, if you have a good work area it makes it easier to be motivated. Now if I could just get my workshop cleaned up!

I'm currently awaiting acceptance into the microfit program. Once it goes through, I'll be installing a 10.kw system on the roof to compliment the geothermal.

In a shtf or 'shituation' as I like to call it, I plan on hijacking the power. This is the latest thing I'm doing to prep. This and canning (I a canning newbie).

Yikes! I have a lot of work to do!!!! I only got 3 marked!!! Of course I only started 6 months ago and I'm still young but my age won't stop a catastrophe from happening!!!! I'm glad I found this site and this thread, so far it's giving me tons of ideas and helpful info to get done what I need to get done for any horrific event I may be forced to deal with! Thank God for you people!!!!!!! :3

Here is a tip for prepping. If you smoke or know someone who smokes and uses lighters! Save them even after the liquid is empty. You can use the striker (Flint/Steel) as a fire starter.

OMG you rock. I use zippos and I have over 3000 match books and I also have bic lighters but I won't throw them out anymore!!! This is extremely helpful for me!! Thank you!!!

I met a woman in Walmart today in sporting goods. We were both looking at compound bows. Anyways after a little chit chat about bows, I learned she's a nurse practitioner, and really into prepping. She belongs to a group that's a licensed 501c, (able to get donations and govt grants etc), and is sanctioned by FEMA and local law enforcement. They are some sort of community response organization, kind of as a backup for FEMA or the national guard for the local area. They rent a small commercial building and set up a ham radio tower that reaches the local mountain areas here. She mentioned that there are other groups like this along the smokey mountain chain, and are supposed to help during disasters in the rural areas. They have workshops and classes and teach all kinds of skills from first aide to farming. I'm almost as excited as a kid before Christmas. Their next meeting is sept 8th, and I'll be there. I hope I can find some others locally that have the same goals as lots of us here have. I'll post any info I get.

I love the Smokey Mountains and that's where I'd ultimately like to settle. I've looked very seriously at the area where NC, Georgia and Tenn meet in the Cherokee National Forest. Maybe after I wander the country for awhile, that's where I'll head.

I would love to be close to a group like that. I have a small network of people in my community that are aware of my prepping and are very excited about doing it with me so I am definitely trying to start up my own little group. I run and manage a mobile home park that is very rural where every one owns their own home and and we have a river full of fish in our back yards. There are a few here that want nothing to do with it but don't think we are crazy, we had 2 feet of snow last winter in our area and some houses were out of power for almost two weeks, everybody in our little community pitched in to help and this is where I began thinking to start my own group of preppers here. Everyone has something to offer whether it be medical education, weapons training, or food storage skills and wilderness survival skills and hunting capabilities, most all of us fish so the river in our back yard has made a great way to supplement our food. I plan to put a community vegetable and fruit garden in one of our common areas. This way no one feels the urge to loot each other. We are a very close community but I wish I could get more of them to become more serious, I have to give my prepping ideas to them in a round about way so it seems like fun and a community event rather than a doomsday prep. Lol, I'll keep working on all 24 homes in my community and hopefully get them all prepared so when my husband and I move to build our homestead in the Washington state wilderness they will be at least able to care for themselves. I prep for my family and myself but I also strive to teach others how to be smart and survive so thing as little as a power outage. I hope over the years I can be of great help to everyone who wants this knowledge and I also will never turn down knowledge, I want to learn until the day I die, I will never feel fully prepared. :3

I will be learning to can soon, I recently heard that if you can ANYTHING with flour in it such as chicken and dumplings that it will not hold up and be rendered un edible.

Oh another thing beside creating more weapons is I use our local food bank for non parish able foods. Like rice and beans and pasta and canned goods. We have 5 kids and my husband is the only one who works, and I stay home and manage a mobile home park and take care of kids, so this recourse is the best I've found so far with the inflation of food costs. I've spent two hundred dollars on just meat and walked out with barely 30 pounds of meats. This is not enough to feed my whole family for more than a month and a half. So I am working extra hard to perfect bow hunting (I also use a 20 gage shot gun) to supplement our meats in the hunting season. I want us to be completely self sufficient and not need any outside resources to help us eat within the next year. This is my big prepping goal. :3
