Yeah, I had more seeds than room to plant them all by far! I’m going to add some potatoes soon but will stop with that. I’ve allready got a lot to keep weeded. Although the mystery monster that is still eating my pea plants is still at large, so I may have more room soon.... luckily he or it isn’t eating anything else, yet. I’m doing my best to not apply any poisons unless absolutely necessary. I believe this is something bigger than an insect though, but no footprints left...

I am at the mercy of pests since I got the bees and chickens.

Getting excited. . . I found my first baby tomato :)!! I also have a yellow squash that is about ready too. A couple m guys ago I got to eat a fresh from the garden salad for dinner. It wasn't much variety to choose from yet but it did have arugula, jalapeno, radish, and some beet greens.

I planted my okra and peanuts this morning along with some mammoth sunflowers in a row I have some thing viney, I think it was the pumpkin pies maybe?

It's been overcast most of the day. We were supposed to have had rains this morning, but maybe later this evening. If not, I will water tomorrow.

Put cages around about half of my tomato plants, but I have ran out so will have to come up with something. Also went ahead and trimmed back some of their green leaves. They look nice with all that foliage, but I am after tomatoes.

The wife got home yesterday, after being gone for two months, and the first thing see wanted to see was the garden. The asparagus is coming up, most of her herbs survived the winter and some onions have sprouted. The raspberry, blueberry, and blackberry's are all budding out. Nothing on the grape plants yet. All of the fruit trees are budding too. Last night was only in the mid 30's but most nights have been in the low to mid 20's. The asparagus and herbs need watering today. I'd like to start tilling soon to get ready to start planting in a couple of weeks.
We're going to plant a few more apple, plum and cherry trees in the orchard and couple more rows of blackberry's, grapes and blueberry plants.
No rain in sight.

Hunny did take the skid steer to the back of the house to load up the freezer that went kaputs a few weeks back and took it down the road to get picked up. Probably by one of the guys who scraps metal for a living.

Today was more trimming out extra leaves and stems of tomatoes that were not wanted. I want to make sure that my bottom leaves are at least 12 inches off the ground to help ward off diseases and also give good airflow underneath. While I was in the process of that, hunny said he was going to go to the hardware store and asked if I wanted to go. Heck yes. my back was hurting and I needed the break and I wanted the free popcorn. I was hungry, hadn't eaten anything and past lunchtime.

After we got home hunny went back to his recliner and I talked to him for a little bit telling him what was going on in the garden and with my goats. I got the you need to do this and do that . . . yes I know, but I am one person who can only do one thing at a time. Honestly I am fed up some days when I know good n well that hunny is ok right now, just going thru a depression. I get the depression, but you can not let it control your life. Apparently he knew I got ticked and eventually came out to fix the sprinkler that was leaking and also put in a couple stakes so my goats could go out to the canal without knocking over the temp fence. It was a 'sweetie' kind of day. . .

Did get to start mulching. The mulch I got last year that seemed ok at first ended up to be more broken down than I originally thought so I ended up hooking up a small trailer to the back of the golf cart and went down the lane that leads into the big cow pasture. It is a wooded area that boarders our property with the pipeline. It is a combination of mainly live oaks, pines, scrub oaks and hackberry. I ended up just raking all the leaves and pine needles for the mulch around my plants because there is no way I can leep up with my schedule. . . . As soon as I get the garden weeded I just have to start right over again and I am not able to get out there everyday any longer.

We are slated for rain all day too. I need to get out and weed. At least I will do the greenhouse. I think I’m going to can a few jars of collards for the first time. I’ve been making them with a can of beef broth and a can of chicken broth. Best darned collards I’ve ever had. The number one thing though for today is mother’s day. Gardening can wait.

Thanks for the tomato reminder. A rainy day is a good time to transplant a few more of the tomatoes that randomly popped up in the greenhouse. They are amazingly resilient plants. I have at least 8more or so to move into the main garden.

I had two of the transplants I put in the garden die. I've only transplanted 9 to garden and 4 to containers. Since I killed the initial 36 seedlings, I'm off to a slow start

I think about all we're going to plant in the garden this year is a few tomato and some pepper plants. And we've got a couple more raised beds that the wife wants to plant some more herbs and asparagus in.
If it's not too late we'll get a few more fruit trees.
The wife's going to be gone most of the summer and I still have a couple more miles of fence to build and repair.

All of the initial transplants I did survived, but they were very young. I transplanted 4 decent sized plants yesterday and will see how a more mature plant does. All the tomato seeds I planted are about two inches tall right now so the transplants will hopefully give me that first tomato of the season before long. One of yesterday’s plants had flowers on it but I’m sure they will die from the shock. Thought about plucking them but this is really just kind of an experiment anyways. I will go water them in a bit more this morning. I did get most of the outside garden weeded yesterday. That was about all the productivity I managed on a rainy day. Today I get to mow and weeds eat 2.5 acres here. Yeah! Not....
