I have a bunch of strawberry plants ,they are doing very well but I have not gotten 1 strawberry off of them,,,,I am very disappointed in thatPicked some strawberries, had more than 7 plants producing berries already. Think the kids planted 30 plants in all of the strawberries.
I've heard you can grow them in a pot/container and move them inside during cold seasons. I'm kind of the mindset to stick with what plants are hardy in your area but if you have a green thumb and lots of time you can do a lot more.Wish I can grow bananas here
They do well with lots of water and some fertilizer. I had a lot of strawberries in pots a couple years back. Over winter I put them in the greenhouse to keep them warm and killed/cooked them. They are really cold hardy and didn't need to be protected to death..... I have one small plant left from that bunch, and got two strawberries off it a couple days ago. I guess I need to plant it and let it spread out into more plants. They send out runners that root when they touch the ground and make new plants easily.I have a bunch of strawberry plants ,they are doing very well but I have not gotten 1 strawberry off of them,,,,I am very disappointed in that
Jealous of all y'all's garden successes. Sometimes (most years?) it's kind of a challenge to garden here....land of extremes. 6 weeks ago we got snow, today will be 104. Tomorrow, 108. And wind. Almost all the time LOTS of wind. I've got some stuff up & some doing pretty well but it's gonna be quite a while before I can pick anything.
Of course, I bet ya ain't got the humidity. Yesterday morning the air was thick. Yesterday afternoon, 60+ mph winds, then a storm. Actually blew up something of a dust storm before the rain. Rare for here.
I will no longer complain about 90 degrees.... you win....
ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!dad's in surgery (he cut his finger off today)
This is what I came home after work to pick. . .the reason why I have so many green tomatoes is cause we are already feeling the tropical storm in the Gulf. I dont hit the garden till after i get off at 2pm and i am sure it will be raining by then. Expected rainfall is a foot so we'll see. My peppers have finally started drying out and producing half way. Poor things have been struggling just to survive this year. Hoping i dont loose them after this storm blows tbru.View attachment 7134
Between yestersday and early this morning we planted asparagus, strawberries, tomatoes and hot peppers. Made a couple more raised beds too. I'll look for some more tomato and pepper plants tomorrow while dad's in surgery (he cut his finger off today). The corn is starting to come up and the blueberry plants are loaded with berries.
