I'm looking to expand my bug out/get homepreps and think it would be wise to have a bow to carry on me for my journey. I have to make a 500 mile journey so I'm sure I can benefit from some added long distance protection and also a tool for hunting. Anyone here use bows? what do you recommend for style? I'm used to a compound but feel the need to invest in a recurve

any recommended weapons?

In my opinion you'd be better off with a .22 pistol, such as a Browning Buckmark. And a .22 rifle, like the Ruger 10/22 Takedown. Both are easier to carry than a bow and arrows.

The bow has the stealth aspect that is good for not giving away your posistion over a gun. I agree with Arctic though, a small gun is good for both hunting and protection, and a whole lot easier to carry on the road. Here at the house I have two bows, cross bow and regular compound. I think they are both potentially good defensive and or hunting weapons, but I would grab a good semi auto rifle first 99% of the time. There’s a reason that firearms are used over bows and arrows. How many Native Indian armies are left in the world.

If you live in the US surely a gun would be a better bet than a bow? , even one of those small Ruger 22 pistols must be a better bet??

I second everyone's ideas about gun vs. bow, but I uderstand and am sympathetic toward archery post SHTF.

There are excellent survival bows that are collapsable...GoPrimalNow.com. has different models that fold up, and are getting good reviews.

I am very prejudiced in favor of guns, but anyone can make arrows with a little practice, bows are silent, they can be purchased and stashed without paperwork, and they can be repaired with primitive tools easier than repairing a gun.

Also, one final point: a Kevlar vest will readily deflect bullets...but a razor broadhead will go right through soft body armor like a hot knife through warm butter.

Maybe diversity in post SHTF weapons could be a good thing.

It's becoming hard to own a gun where I live

Silent Earth stop pretending that you're a college kid in Chicago.

It's perfectly easy to purchase a gun in Chicago as long as you're a law abiding citizen. There isn't any kind of firearm that you can purchase anywhere in the country that you cannot purchase in Chicagoland area If have a valid FOID card.

The only difference is that there is a 3 day waiting period after initial purchase for handguns and two day waiting period for long guns. That is IT.

The only reason why Silent Earth made this fake account was to talk shyt and stir the pot further cause he has nothing better to do. He is full of shyt and he knows it.
