My pension and retirement aren’t taxed in Kansas nor here in Washington, that was one of the things I was looking at when we first discussed moving out of Washington last year. Since I’m retired I don’t have to worry about the income tax affecting me.

That's something that I hadn't really considered yet. I'm probably going to start taking SS next year, but won't touch any of my retirement accounts for a few more years. SS isn't taxed in my State either but other forms of retirement income are. Property taxes are considered low (under $1,000/year) on my property due to AG, timber and homeowners exemptions. I may look at setting up residency in another State for tax purposes and continue living here. We make all of our large purchases in the state next to us that doesn't have a sales tax which saves a lot of money.

Alaska has no income or sales tax. And outside of the boroughs there's no property tax. And talking about size; if you cut Alaska in half, Texas would only the third largest state. Texas is tiny compared to Alaska.
