I know we've discussed bug out bag equipment lists, but this one has pics for the novices. Also, I'd rethink some of the items. While this gentleman, proposed list is good, I'd like to think that you would want to move quick and lightly. Possibly convincing a relative who lives outside of the city to maintain a more robust bag that you can marry up with once your out of the threat zone. Just my thoughts, but to each his own.

Good preps to you all.

I'll contribute! Random thought dump to follow:

I have that pack, it sucks and it never gets worn it's really only used to store equipment. The shoulder straps are far too narrow and not enough padding. He'll get rid of those knee pads about 15 minutes into his walk.
Flexible saws suck get rid of it.
Need a better compass.
Ditch the folding bucket.
Get rid of olive oil.
Get rid of tide laundry detergent.
Get rid of garden trowel.
Get rid of razer and shaving kit.
Get rid of tampon - no use for them.
First aid section needs more gauze and a TQ, maybe a chest seal.
No point in the motorola FRS radio since he has a Baofeng I'd also get rid of the weather radio since you can access that with the Baofeng.
Get rid of sewing kit.
Get rid of big scissors.
Why two saws?
Get rid of all the electrical repair equipment.
Pick either a multitool or the extra screw drivers he has.
Ditch extra knife sharpeners.
Too many note pads, extra pencils, sharpies, etc.
Get rid of mp3 player.
Again extra screw drivers.
More pens....
Calculator? really?
3 different SD / usb drives?
Holy cow swim goggles?

There are more issues with the bag but that was a quick read. I respect the guy for trying to build a bag but he really missed the mark. I think he'd see himself dropping half that gear about 5 miles into his bug out.

Flexible saws suck get rid of it. (get a Bahco laplander)
Need a better compass. <The Brunton Classic Compass is ok for N S W E readings but not wilderness navigational> (get a Suunto M-3G Global compass or Suunto MC-2 mirror compass)
Ditch the folding bucket. (I use the Seattle sports foldable camp bucket, rain collecting and sanitation)
Get rid of olive oil. (debatable)
Get rid of tide laundry detergent. (agree)
Get rid of garden trowel. (better than nothing, lighter than a e-tool, effective for a dakota pit and dump hole)
Get rid of razer and shaving kit. (debatable)
Get rid of tampon - no use for them. (or apply it to the first aid kit for bleeding control)
First aid section needs more gauze and a TQ, maybe a chest seal. (chest seal only good if one has access to a hospital within 2 hours)
No point in the motorola FRS radio since he has a Baofeng I'd also get rid of the weather radio since you can access that with the Baofeng. (the Baofeng doesn't have S.A.M.E. alert feature as the Sangean DT-400W has)
Get rid of sewing kit. (I carry one Best Glide Survival Sewing and Repair Kit)
Get rid of big scissors. (if the FAK has EMT Shears no need for big scissors)
Pick either a multitool or the extra screw drivers he has. (multi-tool)
Ditch extra knife sharpeners. (I carry 3 different sharpeners plus a file)
Too many note pads, extra pencils, sharpies, etc. (2 Pack Rite in the Rain note pads 1 Fisher 400b Space Pen 1 sharpie)
Get rid of mp3 player. (agree)

Olive Oil=good for any wild life gotton while bugging home/out

Spam Single Classic=i've got some.i find them dryer and tougher then i care for.and not much on the taste..but doable..

Toothpicks.kept in a spice jar for dryness.and convenance..

Spare Batteries (12-AA, 10-AAA, 3-LR44, 1-9V) ..negotiable..

GoLite Half Dome Travel Umbrella w/Case..questionable..

Blackhawk! Advanced Tactical Knee Pads..not sure they'd be needed..

Miscellaneous Electrical Connectors..why??? shouldn't have any thing in a ghb/bob or on person that needs them..

Razor Blades for when scissors dont work to well

Barnes & Noble Nook with Bug Out Library (BOL)...i have one..battery is probably good for 4 to 5 hours..so keeping it charged might/will be a issue..

Micro SD Card can be good if the needed extra info is on them..

Like I said, its just that a good reference...I carry a urban bug out bag, its not really my EDC bag, more of a small kit bag with just about everything, toothbrush, paste, static guard (yeah women wear dresses, so I have for the Mrs. and before some of my friends jump my @$#, I even have nylons (new in package), even some eye shadow, lipstick, just in case, she needs them.), medicines (motrin, crap medicine, eye drops, ), jump drives, a mini screw driver kit, hammer, nails, screwdriver, flat and Philips, a wrench kit, banding wire, zip ties, superglue, model glue, picture wire, masking tape, even different beverage caps, small collapsible cup, niosh 3M mask rated, etc...just an every day bag that helps me with work, the item list goes on...why because I am the guy that all my coworkers come to for just about everything, when they need something. While I don't think its my urban bug out, it is my urban survival bag...troll the Walmart Traveler section, I think I have a good amount of that crap and you know what I kept my wife happy and me not having to run into a store for her. Granted, I know that the above PDF was possibly put together wrong...maybe the writer meant to mean survival bag for those type of things. Who knows. As I said, just putting out there to help those who need the help.

Too piggy back the olive oil , yeah I questioned some of it..but I began to think about the olive oil...ever eat mustard greens or dandelion leaves...a little garlic salt, olive oil and presto, you've got a pretty good salad. Granted I am not a vegan, but heck...in Texas, we have Dandelions growing everywhere...some years ago, I saw a Korean lady walking out in the field, first I thought okay Asian lady lost, so I stopped and asked, what she was doing...in her broken English, she said, she was picking the very best leaves for Kimchee. Okay, so I gave...I ate a ton of the crap in Korea, when I was over there with 2ID....but that was a new one...she smiled at me and she said that I didn't never know what I ate there....I smiled, wished her a good day and then told myself not to eat it the next time I go back. Granted, I make some pretty mean cucumber kimchee, but them Koreans, they eat garlic to scare the vampires away. Also, one of my sailor friends, who was training with me, fell into a Korean honey pot...yup up to his neck...he was cleaning his weapon for weeks to get the crap out and we had to sleep up wind from him for a week...not enough camp soap could get that smell off him...so long story short...I like the idea of olive oil...also in the worst pinch, u could use it as a lubricant and yes can use it as N.R. stated as am improvised lattern oil.

Great comments...good preps to you all
