as we all prep in various ways, don't forget to take care of your teeth, had one of my molers kinda "explode" yesterday, ate a cookie and heard
a crunching noice..today had the dentist to operate what was left away,in one day there was already an infection, now on antibiotics, some
paine meds and a small fever and stiches..
bad teeth could cause alot of trouble in shtf..and my training weekend went to shits.
we go for a checkup at the dentist's every 6 months, I had an appointment last Thursday and came away with nothing needing doing, mind you I've only got 7 teeth left in my mouth so I intend to keep them as long as possible. next appointment is April 2019.
the last thing we need when SHTF is toothache-or worse- we'll have enough to contend with without that.

I ordered a Berkey water filter. It should be delivered late this week. I am excited about it. I also ordered a paper road map of Texas (Rand McNally), and another small batch of silver junk coins.
I really like my Berkeys, I have a smaller one for work and a big one for home, with the black filters. Really makes a big difference in taste, let alone what they filter out!

don't know if your dentist may have recommended swishing with a hydrogen peroxide and water mixture. It helps prevent infections. Since you are on antibiotics you won't need to right now though, but it is a good to know little tid bit. It also helps draw out the infection of you have one.

The old barn is completely dismantled now. He's still has a few truck and trailer loads of materials to haul away.
I only need a few more truck loads of gravel to put on the road. We saved a lot of money on rock this year by having our own gravel pit. At least on the pit run rock anyway. Now we're hauling in crushed rock.
The roof sheeting is finially going up on the house. The electrician is scheduled for next Monday and the HVAC guy is coming out tomorrow.
I found a wood stove today that's actually still made in the USA. The wife wants one with nickel accents. I'll order it later this week.
I picked up the snow blower on Saturday and got it assembled yesterday. I went with a 3 stage track drive blower this time.
Tomorrow I'll order the new snow plow for the tractor.
I traded a pig for 3 cords of firewood. Just have to split it now.
I'm hoping to find time tomorrow to sort, clean and dye my traps. I'll probably give away or sell a couple hundred of my traps. Dont need that many any more. If we don't get too much more snow I'm going to start trapping coyotes in the higher elevations by the end of the month.
Getting ready for winter is always a busy time.

Cool, I finally got a better look at the campers electrical system for hooking the solar panel into it. I have a plan now for everything at least. The two batteries are installed as well as the dual gas tanks. I am going to install the inverter inside next to the electrical panel along with the charger controller. The inverter I got is 1500w and I will tie it into the 110v electric so all the receptacles are hot, and have a selector switch to disconnect it for when I can plug into the grid. I am going to install a fuse between the solar panel and charger, and one between the charger and the batteries. The inverter has a fuse built in it allready, so everything will be protected. The campers panel has breakers allready too. I just ordered the inverter and in-line fuses today from amazon, along with some battery cables. Hopefully in a couple days I will put it all together and post some pictures of the progress. This is my first solar install but is a prelude adding it to my house hopefully. Honestly I’m having fun with this project but am really looking forwards to actually taking it out and using this project!

A few weeks ago I posted on purchasing alkaline batteries for my emergency stock (rotating out old stock) I ran a couple of test 5 days ago on my old energizer alkaline batteries and was disappointed but not entirely surprised. I wished I done this short test before purchased the alkalines recently. So, with this outcome I'm going to make more changes.

My short notes on this.

I finally tested my American made energizer max alkaline batteries that were 7 years old and 9 years AA and D cells, The voltage has dropped to 1.3 for the AA 7 years old and the D cell 1.4 9 years old, the AA I put in a 3 battery LED flashlight it worked and not a noticeable reduction in brightness but dimmed slightly in 5 minutes, but after 4 days in the flashlight it started to leak, the D cell's I put in a 4 battery lantern, the lantern was totally reduced in light output and died in 10 minutes.

With my test the 10 year holding power may be true but not under load, also, the guarantee of not leaking take with a grain of salt, in a SHTF guarantee means squat, the 7 year old AA leaked after 4 days after being installed, not exceptable in an emergency.

My energizer lithium AA after 6 years in storage still had full power and worked the flashlights just fine. I'm going to start rotating all my stored Alkaline batteries out replacing them with energizer ultimate lithium batteries AA/AAA. Yes more expensive but more reliable in both power output and reliability and that's what I need in short term and long term emergencies.

I also have eneloop batteries, but the eneloops are in case all other batteries are exhausted and not available for purchase.

I almost exclusivly use rechargable NIMh- AA, AAA, C, D, 9V and have been using some for 12 years and most all still work great. Started useing 18650 and now 20700 and I found they are the best value and most reliable. Other batteries were waisting my money.

I have a few lights using 18650, 14500, 123, I do have a few 20700, I have 3 universal chargers that charge these and NIMh, using my solar panels.

Me too, on not using many batteries. I have oil lanterns, solar chargeable lights, candles and a couple crank lights. I have a battery flashlight in my bug out bag that when I tried it out it was dead. If I was going to use batteries they would definitely be rechargeable with a solar panel.

I'd like to get a couple crank lights plus a crank radio. I haven't looked in to a solar battery charger yet but I think it would be a good idea to get one.

Food is a regular monthly prep. Got batteries coming out my ears. Just Converted my AR15 (556) back to semi-auto from a bolt action configuration (Kominfornia special). New 7.62 x 39 upper receiver and barrel on the way. 4 ten round mags in the mail for starters. By the time the mid-terms are completed, I will be ready for the snowflake melt down. If nothing happens then I will just have more fun at the range.

Most of my flashlights will run off of either AA or 14500 Li-ion. For flashlights I use regularly, I use the 14500, for those that are mostly for backup and don't get used often, I use Energizer Ultimate Lithium.

I have two flashlights that use the larger 18650 Li-ion batteries (look like a supersized AA) and I wish more things used that size battery. It's an awesome battery!
