My efforts are really going to seem meek to some but still

•made some random generators for items to pick out when shopping (for variety), covering all the major food groups but maintaining a price point per oz of 28cents/oz or less (mostly walmart retail)
•made my budget for groceries (my main arbitrary cost bill) and allowed for stocking up on non perishables over time I can pick up
•Joined Doomsdayprepper forums -yay!
•In the process of learning Spanish as well as how to ferment my own ethanol/vodka/sugarwash (it's very interesting, many uses)

https://www.duolingo.com/
http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Vodka (this is Vodka, but it's similar)

I have guns, some food, protective clothing, etc..

So...I bought spare parts, springs, magazines, gunsmithing manuals, and gunsmithy tools so I can keep my guns up and running.

I also planned next week's shopping list:

More canned food, 50 lbs. quinoa, antibiotics from online vet supply, and a pair of combat boots.

Learning is probably the most important prep you can do. I think a second language is really smart too, especially Spanish as it is so commonly used. We all have budgets to work with, so just do what you can as you can afford it. My best advice in life is don't buy anything on credit. Pay as you go and you will have so much more in the long run. My personal opinion on supplies and stuff is start with water. Hardly anyone has enough stored, ways to filter it or access to a clean source if an emergency happens. Welcome to the forum.

Well, lets see what I've managed to do this week. I did a lot of weeding, but still have a good bit to do still. I guess the secret is don't let it get out of hand to begin with. Anyways, I'm getting caught up at least. I had peanut plants that were buried completely. At least they are coming back to life once I clear around them. I picked my first dukes this season! I ate a couple so far, but have run out of pickles, so most will be canned. Still waiting on the first ripe tomato. There's several huge ones that should be turning color soon. I also picked almost a gallon of blackberries today. They are reserved for wine as it's one of my favorite flavors. I picked some onions too. I should probably go ahead and pull them all as they are ready, but I can only eat so many at a time, carrots are ready to be picked now as well. I'm working on a big job for the next two days, so I won't be playing with any thing here till that's done.

I just started putting small things together for a bug out bag. This week, I created a small first aide kit, got a multi tool (knife), some thin nylon rope, a small LED flashlight, collapsible scissors. Next week, I will add to that.

That's how we started. Spend carefully though. We each had a bob and now we're both on different bags. We started with a small amount of food, now it has grown by a lot. We did an inventory last weekend and I was really surprised at how much we do have a few years into prepping.

Baby steps! One thing I always try to impress upon people is water filtration. I'd take a good water filter over a weapon any day. I also think it is so important that having a spare is not an option to me.

Yep. We have several options.

If there is (still) a Gander Mountain near you, Sawyer filters were 40% off yesterday.....

Had a good day today. It seems like I haven't done any prepping with trying to keep up with our workload lately. I got all the grape vines weeded and mowed this morning. Then I got 2 more batches of pickles done, have my first batch of dehydrated potatoes in the dehydrator right now, and I did the last racking, or siphoning off the clear wine and leaving the sediment. I have 7 five gallon jugs of it that can be bottled in a few more weeks. Seems like my hobbies are becoming a full time job here.... oh one other cool thing! An aquaintenance of mine was inspired to try canning his first three jars of pickles today. He called me about five times during the process, and I doubt they turned out well, but it's a start! I did advise him to keep them referigerated just in case, but was positive and as encouraging as I could be.

Nice, but the closest is a ways away. Appreciate the tip though.

They're going away soon. The local store is still well stocked for a lot of things, but they're emptying their warehouses.

We got some camping stuff there, some clothes and other goodies.

Unfortunately, they're keeping the ammo discounts low....

There is one somewhere near Atlanta. If I can I will try to check it out later this week.

Ours is about to close down. Hunny did get really nice hiking boot for $5.58. Honestly think missed marked cause non of the other shoes were marked that low. Ton a miss that store but they say Academy is too much of competition.

The one near here told me that they've been told that they'd shut down in August. We'll see, I did score some 5.11 tactical boots for about $40 off - I'd been too much of a tightwad to buy them. Glad I did because they are so good that they didn't need breaking in!

I've been thinking about more hunting clothes, they're all half off...

Got all the corner posts and gate posts set for the pig pasture (10 acres) and about half of the steel T-posts are in. Only need to drive in about 200 more posts and build a couple of gates. Then I can start putting up the wire. Got the corral done and the chicken run just about finished. Picked up the baby chicks at the post office last Wednesday. They're all doing good. Got them under a heat lamp at my parents place until I can bring them home. I'm setting up a solar panel, battery and inverter to a 62 watt heat plate brooder for them at home. Got the garden and orchard fenced on three sides. Need to clear some more trees and brush for the orchard expansion before I can fence the last side. My son's coming down next weekend to help me roof the chicken coop and re-roof the pump house, which blew off last winter. It's been hot here. Been having bear problems lately. Looks like I'll be getting another bear rug soon. Got up to 83 today, highest so far this summer.

Man, it's Monday morning again! The weekends really fly by, especially when you fill them with projects. The potato slices look great after being in the dehydrator all night. They are semi translucent and free of dark spots. I will do a batch every day for the potatoes that had any blemishes, and the best ones are going in the root cellar to see how well they last in there. I will store the finished potatoes in baggies until I get enough to put in jars and will oven can them to get a good seal. I guess I should try making something out of them to see how they taste before I store too many, but either way the less than perfect potatoes are getting dealt with first. These are all red potatoes in this batch. It's amazing how much better they taste than the stuff from Walmart.

Just make sure it's still there if you're going out of your way.
There are three left in Atlanta, with only one near enough to where we work often. I'll make the effort to see what they have left. We had a Kmart here close that I went to but it was not marked down much and was already picked over. It's sad for retail, but brick and mortar stores are in trouble. I know I buy the vast majority of our supplies on line, mostly amazon. How can you compete with cheaper and shipped free to your door? I recently read that Jeff Bezos is well on his way to being the richest man in the world. I wish I had invested a thousand dollars with him when he get started!

We learned the hard way to use a sliding bolt lock on the outside of the gate. . . we at first just used a hook and quickly found out they were smart enough to open that. Do the pigs not normally dig under the fences if running around on 10 acres? Our pen I nowhere near that big but sunk railroad ties in the ground to prevent them from digging under.
