Reading your CNN link, it sound like the CDC is a little naive and/or arrogant? or is it just me misreading
If they seem naive or arrogant, just remember the CDC is just another government alphabet soup agency and think about how many other alphabet soups have lied or misled the public recently.

"So far, the CDC is dismissing worries of the disease reaching U.S. shores"

"What’s more alarming, however, are reports confirmed by the National Border Patrol Council, or NBPC, and United Nations that some of the detainees apprehended attempting to enter the U.S. illegally are from Africa – where the Ebola outbreak is thriving"

Here's why Ebola is easy to spread, and nearly impossible to fully contain:

From the Wikipedia entry on it:

Symptoms typically start two days to three weeks after contacting the virus

I bolded the 3 weeks. Yep, so no signs at all of it, jet-setting around, and blammo! You've infected dozens of people (who in turn infect others, etc.)

There was a guy who was headed back to the US, but in Liberia, he went to the doc, and had it, died 5 days later. US Citizen on his way back to his wife and kid. If it incubated later, would have brought it to the US.

if you volontarily take patients from ebola-Africa you are asking only for troubles, it's like;hey let's help spreading this
let's make it something really big and dangerous

He didn't know he had it until he went to the docs during the many stage flight home. Had he decided to skip the doc in Liberia, he would have come through Heathrow in London, likely next, then JFK in New York, then his local airport. Infecting folks all along the way (unknowingly). Just that easy.

Just heard a blurb on the news, they just isolated an Ebola patient in atlanta. I kind of knew we would get it here, just didn't expect it yet.

Really good article, thanks for sharing. I do regret not having a passport at this time, and have thought about it but always seem to have more pressing things to do with the money I have. I'm not sure I really want to go to an international airport during any pandemic though. Surgical masks of some sort will be on my list tomorrow though. I don't believe in overreacting or panicking, but if this stuff spreads, masks will be in short supply overnight.

Be aware that the surgical masks are intended to keep you from spreading germs, rather than receiving them. Go to Lowe's and check out the different types of protective masks they have there.

Masks are goog at protecting both the user and others. Breathing in is only one way to get something. There's no replacing hand washing and being aware not to touch your eyes, nose and mouth. I will get some masks today though for the bug out bag.

The news made it out as a passenger was positive for the virus on the trailer to get you to watch the show. There's a big difference between bringing someone here and finding someone here. I still think it's only a matter of time though, and if not this bug then another one. With the world as over populated as it is it will happen, just when? I think a rural location is a good move for lots of reasons.

so it starts...somehow I think our governments will not be ready...

I checked lowes today for masks. They had 3 for 5bucks. Then I went to walmart, 20 for three bucks. Sold. Also picked up a fifty count of disp. gloves. I'm not being paranoid, just prepared.

Same brand of mask, Brent?
No, the lowes were the rounded semi rigid painters masks, Walmart had the regular surgical masks. I also saw an add at harbor freight tools that had the lowes styled ones pretty cheap as well. I'll probably buy a few more packs at Wally World the next couple times I go in just to put away.
