Does anyone know anything about syngas generators?

I am under the (perhaps mistaken) assumption that there are electrical generators that can run off of wood instead of gasoline, propane, or diesel.

Something about heating wood so that it gives off a gas that can run a generator?

Does anyone use this or know about it?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Research gasifier engines back during WWII, some countries use this today including north korea. Gasifier to some extent is making a come back.

they did a very low-tech version of a gasifier in that nat.geo show doomsday I belive it was.

Its called Gasification, when you burn wood correctly it burns THREE times, First you heat the wood and it gives of flammable gas this is gasification, then when the gas is burnt off the wood itself burns followed by the charcoal. With gasifiers you heat the wood in sealed chamber and capture the gas which is then burnt in the IC engine.

In WW2 UK we often used coal gas / Methane extracted from coal by heating it and storing it in large gas bags on top of the car roof, this was used instead of petrolium.

FYI DIY set ups for cracking water into hydrogen and oxygen for burning in engines is being played around with, something to do with electrolysis I think. Its also being muted that we should use the energy from Wind Farms and Solar Farms to crack water from H20 into H and O for buring in turbines .

My son demonstrated hydrogen production from water using electrolysis in an eighth grade science fair project. Believe me, it ain't rocket science.

Up till now, the cost of making and storing h2 have been the issues. Remember the Hindenburg? Thats what comes to mind when most people think of burning hydrogen. Some people are developing an onsite h2 generator that can be carried in the car and h2 can be made as needed...but you still need to pay to split the H and the O. I have not seen any results of this research

Pengyou, gasoline vapor is highly flammable too. And gasoline vapor does not dissipate into the atmosphere as quickly as hydrogen. Spilled liquid gasoline takes a long time to evaporate and dissipate. And gasoline vapor hugs the ground because it is heavier than air, creating a fire hazard from sparks yards away from the spill. But that doesn't stop us from using it in hundreds of millions of automobiles.

Many people, including German government scientists at the time and an investigator hired by the Zeppelin company have claimed that the flammable outer skin was responsible for the fire.

I have heard this also, but the stigma is still there. If people would focus on developing something like the sterling engine, we might have a sound, multi fuel engine that is much cleaner burning than the ice and actually might have a greener footprint than electric vehicles.
