doesn't look powerful enough to affect the grid....just communications as it disturbs the atmosphere. Now, if another Carrington Event occurred (like in 1859), nowadays, we'd be screwed, as this would no doubt wreak all kinds of EMP havoc.

Time is not on our side. It is not a question of if it will happen again, just when. It's a good reminder to look around and see how well you are prepped to live without electricity for three weeks or so.

Try longer. Even with a non-crisis, takes us 18 months to get key components we no longer make here in the States for the grid. If we had a Carrington Event level storm hit these days, it'd likely knock out the grid for a long time, even with a crisis level response. Not even to mention personal vehicles and devices. Like you said, more a matter of when than if.

Hopefully, won't see it in my lifetime. But if so, I hope it's at least a few years down the road. At least until I can get the whole well/running water bit off the grid. The rest I can live easy without, but I still want to have running water and toilets thanks.

I'm lucky to have creeks, but carrying 5 gal buckets daily dosent sound fun. I think the solar pump is a pretty good idea. Your right, most things would be ok to adjust to, but two stand out for me, running water and referigeration. I'm hoping to have the propane tank set in late spring, as I hear that's historicaly when prices drop. Even with just cycling a jenny on as needed, life would be a lot more comfortable.

That's one of the few advantages of living in the UK, if its not raining its going to so water is rarely an issue.
I feel like I'm in the UK right now, gloomy, wet and dreary outside. I have the day off, actually a three day weekend, and it's 1pm and I'm sitting on the couch near the fire. I had all sorts of plans for today but it's just hard to get motivated in this weather!

Ah well what you need to fix that is (A) a Log fire (B) a gun or survival magazine (C) and a cold beer.
