All great ideas, dont forget the front bumper scoop saying coming soon but driving in reverse ha anyway , but yea with some sort of metal tubes grinded to a fine razor point put atop of your bumper scoop . Hey got to have a undead idea on the scoop. Go to your local scrap yard and find some good steel, make some pop up and down flaps for your windows , aka armor for your windows.

But if you get time checkout Rigid lights, some good lights to invest in right there. And a awsome product.:ar15:

Im with you emp, an LR defender or an AM General HMWWV aka Military Hummer, but for sure i would go with a diesel engine for my BOV

what about maintenance, electronics out the ###, you 性交 those up and your on foot from there

A diesel 4X4 is the only way to go. Best mileage for the largest vehicle. Any diesel pre 2003 will run on just about any petrolium liquid.

I found 5/16" aluminum sheet (6061) will stop 9mm and 45 acp bullets at a range of 15 yards... at only about 2/3 pound or so per sq foot, you can armor up a vehicle without adding too much weight.

unfortunately adding on armor able to handle rifle rounds you'd be better off with a bank truck or maybe a surplus armored personnel carrier.

to stop a 5.56 or 7.62 Nato round at 10 yards you'd need about 1-1/4" of aluminum or 1/2" steel plate. neither of which are light... aluminum (6061) comes in at about 20 lbs per sq foot and steel is like 22 lbs or something.

3/8" aluminum can stop a shotgun slug at 10+ yards. actually it doesn't take much to stop shotgun slugs, they really don't penetrate much.

I have a duramax with no emissions stuff on it. It gets 22 mpg on the highway. My power wagon is what is the ultimate doomsday rig in it just looks cool, plus it gets points for having no electronics and surprisingly will still top 10 mpg.

My shtf vehicle is a 94 Military MRAP. I can load the entire family and still have room for supplies, artillery, etc. She's a beauty!!

I am going with a 1985 toyota truck 4x4, soild front axle with the 22r carbureted. Really want a unimog.

yes first check your local laws as some states prohibit the private ownership of such vehicles so it is better for you to make skirts and a shell (angled) that can quickly be attached and stored separately. Also an external fuel tank that like that from a semi with armored plating as well should be stored full as the application of armor plates will nearly quadruple your fuel usage. 3/4 of inch should suffice to stop most munitions including .50 unless it is armor piercing which is where the angle set up comes into play so that protection increases without increasing weight or cost. Windows should have slanted armor covering them and doors should have bar locks controlled on the inside so that attackers cannot open the door. If you're serious and have the money a make shift emergency kick out or blow out part should be included in case doors get jammed.

i've known folks put in a larger gas tank.one person had the 20 gallon removed, and a 40 gallon installed..roll bars through out the truck, cab tuck bed and engine area.that is if you havent already.tires that dont deflat when punchered..

We live in a rural to semi-rural area so doubt we'd have to BO. But if we do, all we need do is hitch up our 28' Travel-Trailer, grab the cats, and hit the road. :)

I would highly suggest a person to get a pre-electronic pickup for his BOV. Get a 3/4 ton size 4x4 with high ground clearance and duel tanks. Since about 1998 the auto makers been lowering all trucks and softening the suspension in order to become more like cars. Add tall heavy lug tires and a full set of chains (not cable chains) for all 4 tires. Install heavy duty front and rear bumpers, a front mounted winch, duel battery's and an inverter. The winch should be a minimum of 12,000 lb pull. I have a hydraulic winch on my Jeep Wrangler and an electric winch on my F250. Both types have their good and bad points, but I prefer the hydraulic model. I also carry a couple nylon straps, a chainsaw, Hi-Lift jack, a "deadman" in case a tree isn't handy to winch to, shovel, and extra fuel cans. Try to find the old metal jerry cans. Consider adding an extra bed mounted fuel tank too. Install a full set of mechanical gages. And don't forget a good set of tools and some spare parts.

yeah arcticdude, thats a great idea for what ever happens..best pick-up i ever drove was a 1969 chevy 3/4 s10 series..it started out with a slant 6 3 speed on the cloum.but that got changed out with a large block 500 and a 4 speed on the floor.body n paint looked like they needed replaceing.but was solid and good shape..

With what seems like a surge in preppers, I would expect that a company out there would have been building "new" vehicles designed for survival. No, electronics, emp proof, etc..

akareaper I am sure they are on there way... I say in the next few years someone is going to open the first preppers store, one designed for all preppers needs.

I wonder if it would bomb or make the person filthy rich?!?!?!

It would probably bomb at first but then pick up as things keep getting worse. It would be nice to own the store, because when SHTF you will be extra ready :)
