Why I keep a lot of packs of heirloom seeds in the freezer. :)

I save seeds from okra , water melons and any thing that did exceptionaly well each year . This year I had some volunteer zucchini from seeds that stayed in the ground all winter in the eadge of my garden that had cross polenated with my dixie hybrid squash . These made big fat zuc's with yellow stripes and were good fried or boiled . Everybody I let come over and pick stuff would grab some of these they were eye catchers .

I've heard that multiple types of squash will cross-pollinate in a garden. I'd keep seeds from that. In fact, I'm tempted to put a Crookneck plant next to a zucchini next year just to see it happen!

I had several cucumber plants pop up unexpectedly as well this year. Luckily I trained my bunnies to love cucumbers!

I just had a melon that was round like a cantaloupe, bright yellow like a squash, and sweeter than a honeydew. I don't know what it was but was one of the best tasting things I've ever had. Wish I had gotten some of those seeds. A friend had gotten it from someone else and gave me a few wedges of it, allready deseeded. I'm sure it started as a honeydew, but crossed with something.

So next year, Brent, plant several different melon plants close to each other and see what you get. This could be fun.
