Just a thought...if shtf don't you want to keep a low profile? Wouldn't going to the airport put you above radar - especially leaving the country? Maybe navigating a boat might do the same, but boats are a bit too flammable for my likes.
Though I could see some wisdom in using a boat with a hull painted black or black inflatable raft to get to your bol at night.
