Aren't advanced technologies relevant to prepping?

Yes definitely technology can AID prepping greatly such as us using the Internet to find information out on prepping, supplies, kit, finding other preppers, finding training, bulk buying deals, and getting independent sources of news and intel. BUT in that case it should not replaces RVs, Meets, Convensions and community groups.

Technology like GPS allows to easier navigation BUT must not replace our Maps and Compasses

Technology has made our vehicles far more reliable (providing they are not affected by EMP) so we can venture further with greater confidence

Technology has help turned high quality equipment such as Ham Radios and good quality guns much more affordable, ammo is more consistent in quality, food quality is improved and more consistant. We should embrace technology like Cell phones etc BUT NEVER BECOME RELIANT ON IT.

yup,as long as we we use it to our benefit and not become slaves to it.
I think we must be able to live without it,though it makes our life somewhat easier for now..but be able to live without gagdets if it ever comes to that.

I'm OK with technology, as long as it's pre electronic technology. Anything with electronics is unreliable and undependable when you need it the most, especially in harsh climates. Electronics are designed to have a limited life expectancy and most electronics are designed to be unrepairable by the consumer.

I love modern technology and conviencies. A major focus on my prepping though is to still be able to function if we loose them. Do I want to loose them? Heck no! We live better than kings of old did. This is a great time in history to be alive. The average person has it so much better thanks to all our modern luxuries.

well if there was a nuclear war most will be gone ,without power or fuel what good is it,,,,,,,but until the SHTF you can use it to your advantage you can learn all sorts of things and find items you would never find on a shelf at Wally World,,,by going at least partial solar or wind power you will be able to hold on to at least part of our current way of life,,that is what I strive for,,,the internet will be gone, it has become a major factor in my life for news, knowledge and shopping,,,,

my goal is to go almost completely solar with a wind power backup ,a new home with basement and concrete ceiling and for absolute safety a under ground shelter connected to the basement,,,,,if I live long enough I have a chance at doing it all,,,,,,,,,MAYBE

Aren't advanced technologies relevant to prepping?

In many ways it is relevant but that also depends on what advancement in technology one chooses to use! Given we live in a disposable society we have to be careful in the choices we make. Most of the advancement revolves around short term (5 years or less) that's why we shouldn't discount old school technology. As an small example (and I have many) If one is concerned about nuclear war than get a old tube AM/FM radio given tube radios are not as prone to damage as transistor radios (unless you're in the blast zone)

Don't rely on GPS nor make it your primary navigational equipment, compass and paper maps compass and paper maps and make sure it's a good compass not cheap one's, don't keep all your books on readers, paper books should be the primary choice. As far as clothes go old school wool, remember cotton kills! I shouldn't have to mention food like grow your own, learn foraging ;) in the end it is your mind that needs advancement not the equipment ;)

don't know if you alrady have heard it,but in Norway, they go totally digital with their radio, they will skip the analog stuff alltogether....
