Long overdue update, but lots going on. :)

Finally, finally, we got moved. Seemed like it took forever, but we are settled in. Nope, everything is not perfect. If we had waited for perfect might not have ever got out here, haha.

We moved out here mid-October. Still didn't have some things ready, so we called it 'glorified camping'. It's actually been a good experience. For a while we were living with some ran extension cords from the pole to power things. In a way it was good, it sure made you think about power consumption because you had to really watch what was running and what you actually "needed". With the cords we were able to run the fridge, deep freeze, tv and dvd, microwave, washing machine, toaster oven, lights, chargers, and some space heaters. Not all at once, naturally. Got so used to this that by the time we did have power to the house I actually forgot I could flip a switch for light for weeks, haha. The husband did have to hand dig the 100ft of trench 3ft deep and lay and hook up the remaining power line to the house which took longer than we expected. Have power now and the house still stands, all good. This is the part of the glorified camping part, kind of roughing it, but not really, with extension cords.

The other part of the glorified camping part is we still don't have the water plumbed in. Have been making do with a water spigot outside the back door and filling water jugs. It's do-able, and really makes you think about water usage. Still able to do everything we need to, it's just different. Not that all dissimalar to camping. We heat water in a fry daddy that I never used and can wash and shower and it meets the needs. We've gotten really good at navy showers with the solar shower bag, haha. But even with it's less that a real shower feel, I gotta say when you're dirty that hung shower bag with water heated in a fry daddy that drains out into a trench is still freakin' amazing. Really makes you realize things you took for granted.

The kitchen is also still kind of glorified camping. We ripped out the old, saggy, messed up cabinets and put in pieces of regular cabinets that were given to us, but still missing a sink. I'm washing dishes in plastic tubs (with water heated in the fry daddy, of course). The floor still isn't finished. But I'm still able to cook.

We've hit a few bumps along the road. Broke the glass top to the stove we had, was thankfully given another. My vehicle crapped out. His truck broke down, got towed, but is back and running again. Getting a new physical address took weeks of round and round emails. Getting internet figured out out here was a pain in the butt. The pooch took off one day which scared us to death but was found and really watched like a hawk now. Found out real quick which windows and doors was drafty and worked to figure out temporary measures to stop it. The fridge is acting up. My broke down vehicle got stuck and then the back glass busted out by a thrown rock while attempting to pull it out. Figured out a replacement vehicle but it now needs a battery. It's almost Christmas and haven't done one thing for it yet. Normal life stuff, right?

But we are here!! So many, many things to be thankful for!!! We are now in a home that is ours, perfect or not, on land that is ours, perfect or not. This place is so hidden we have to drive people to it. There is land to start growning our own stuff. There are so many turkey's out here we could probably just bonk one on the head that is walking by if we were hungry enough. The hubby has been so creative with finding ways to bring in extra income or tools that he needs, and then some. On top of that he is starting, finally, to be a repurposing son of a gun! The placement of the home is working exactly as we had hoped, even in 40's yesterday I was turning off all the heaters because the south facing windows were letting in so much natural heat that the electric heat wasn't needed. My little replacement vehicle gets way better gas mileage than my previous one. And, hell yeah, no mortgage or rent. :D

Prepper-wise, have got a whole plastic bin filled with different kinds of beans and some can goods stored. The hubby has been getting a ton of tools from odd jobs that he's picked up, along with a lot of scrap that can and will be repurposed. Was able to get one water storage container so far and want more. It's not much, but it's a start.

So many of us take everyday conviences for granted. Something as simple as turning on a faucet to brush your teeth for example. I’m a big believer of being debt free as now you can use that money to improve your situation each month instead of giving it to someone else. I wish you both the best of luck.

Wow! Except for the laying of extension cords and the water, that was about like our house in Hungary. Ripping out floors, digging them deeper and refilling with concrete and laying tiles. Drilling holes through the ceiling in each room in several places and gouging the walls to replace wiring, plugs and light switches. Knocking down walls and moving doors to another and better place. Complete removal of a bathroom and building a new wash/dry/laundry room. Complete removal of a 60 year old roof and new re-build...Compliments to and for the new homesteading! Greetings from Germany.
