Location
Washington State - between 2 mountains and a river
A police search warrant team going after a drug dealer targeted the wrong address and burst into the apartment of an innocent man who shot and wounded two officers believing they were home invaders, Prince George's law enforcement officials said.

Police Chief Hank Stawinski apologized for the error Thursday and said he has halted executing search warrants until the department reviews how it corroborates information to confirm addresses and the location of investigative targets.

As soon as officers entered the apartment, the man inside immediately surrendered when he realized police were on the other side of the door, Stawinski said.

The man yelled, " 'You've got the wrong address! Don't shoot my daughter!' " according to Stawinski.

No criminal charges will be filed against the resident, who fired at police with a shotgun, said Stawinski, adding that police "did not draw the right conclusion" about their target.

It goes the other way too.

A police officer walked into an apartment (thinking it was hers, but got off on the wrong floor) and shot an innocent man in his own living room because she thought he was a home invader.

It was in another thread here, but I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

I live in the middle of the boonies so I don't lock many doors around here but if I lived in an apartment you can bet your bottom dollar the door would be locked,,,,,either the home owner was a boob or something is fishy with the story

did the officer drive home tired and after a few drinks? just asking..
Said she worked a 15 hr shift. She drove to the 4th floor garage and that was how she got on the wrong floor. But still. There was a mat outside his door, she didn't notice.

This stuff is ridicules , Im pro Police but blame this stuff on TTP (training technique procedures) and leadership. Iv posted here about My house getting SWATed because a Neighbor called and said We were shooting full auto firearms . I was at work . She lied and the Sheriff's Department geared up and charged through the door not waiting for Anyone to answer . So They made a " dynamic entry" on My Wife and Grandson . One Officer could have drove out and handled that call .
This kind of stuff leads to most of the deserving bad press , then add the liberal media fake news and fake outrage makes it hard on the Officer on the beat . All about Leadership and TTP .

I fully support Law Enforcement Officers but there is no excuse for having the wrong address. Investigate , confirm and then do entry --- at the correct address. As for Palm7 situation, the simple act of investigation would have prevented that stupid and unwarranted intrusion.

I lived in Jacksonville Florida for over 20 years, and have seen more police wrong doing swept under the rug ,,,cops who thought they were GOD,,,I have seen police harassment first hand to last me a lifetime,,,,I have little time or compassion for them

I have known good ones and some that are in it for the ego trip. That occupation tends to draw people that want to impress or have control,NOT that they are all like that. As I said, I have met some great law enforcement people. Glad we have them. I would not want the job. Assume you are being lied to all the live long day and put up with the morons. Everyone you meet is practically out to get ya. Not for me.

If anyone ever came busting through my door unannounced they're going to get a load of lead too. Good for this guy.
I have way to many dogs,i always have had to many ,I have never had anyone get past the gate before I knew they were here,,,the dogs are a pain in the ### but the one benefit of having them is no one is ever going to sneak up on me

When the incident I mentioned above happened My old Red Bone was in Her lot outside . Our Chihuahua Chloe was inside and kept barking at them . One Officer had His hand on His gun and kept stepping towards Her to keep Her upset . If I had still had My Plot Hound They would have had to shoot Him when They got out of their cars .

this is all I will say about this,,,,,anyone shows up on my place and kills one of my dogs had better make sure I don't see who did it or kill me also,,,,,,,,,,,,,no one hurts one of my dogs gets away with it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I don't give a damn who they are

Thats another problem with the procedures and Leadership .
If Officers show up and a K9 challenges Them They will shoot it for Their "safety" . A overhaul of procedures could prevent a future Ruby Ridge and help public relations .

Most of us here understand that if you need to take action against a location, the first criteria is to recon (investigate) the location. If there are canines present then bring in tranquillizer guns and quite the pooch, shooting the dog is a louder alarm than the dog barking. Why risk a LEO or giving away your surprise assault. Police really need to evaluate their tactics. If this is not a SWAT type operation, then simply back off, get on loud speaker and hail the house. If the situation is a SWAT type, then simply put the dog down for a short nap and move on with the operation. If it is a mistake, the a simple apology to the residents and a few dog treats for the pooch and go off to the next assignment.

you must not know anything about darting animals. That dog is going to be barking, howling and yelping for at least 30 seconds before the drug takes effect. Cops can damned well get shot if they can't at least yell "police, on the floor" as they come thru the door.
