Former military, cops, retired cops, etc... form "anti-crime" organizations before the SHTF with the idea that they will activate when the government checks stop coming in and the drug-addict gang members get hungry.

In internet database of bad guys. Criminals, drug dealers, gang members anyone that is a threat now will be a worse threat when things go south. Best to learn who they are now, and make decisions (as a neighborhood militia) on what to do about them when law and order break down. And when. (I'm not afraid of broaching the idea of a pre-emptive strike within 3 days of the government shut-down to knock out all the criminal alphas in advance of them arming-up and organizing their own 1st strike.)

An idea rattling around in my head, and I'll go the long way around.

A database, set up so that "just anyone" can anonymously post information regarding known, organized criminals, gang affiliation, criminal record, where they live, their picture, etc... so that "just anyone" can access this information. The first thing it will do is suppress neighborhood criminal activity in the immediate sense, and the 2nd thing it will do is empower neighborhood militias to be able to make decisions regarding what to do about these people when things break down. Do they work? Can they work? Do they have anything to trade? Have they ever worked? If the answer is no, no, no and no, then they are what used to be called a "useless eater", and that coupled with a criminal disposition and a place within a criminal heirarchy elevates that person to a high-level threat in a situation where the police may never come, because the phones aren't even working. What do you do, then?

I'm interested in finding a way to make an entire website be local to your home computer, with database updates from Peer-to-Peer networking, so that there is no domain name to seize, no website host to shut down and no URL to refuse to allow someone access to. Interested people should read-up on the recent kat.cr seizure and shut-down, and an old website named "pink meth". Also that one who's name I forget at the moment, that would publish your mugshot (mugshots.com?) if you got arrested for a DUI or something.

Having the "skeleton" of the website on your computer means that you don't need to download any data from the internet, and having the database file made available via P2P means that you can connect directly to other people's computers and not have an intermediary "middleman" that can be regulated, controlled or shut-down by government.

But the main thing I wanted to mention was Neighborhood Militias. I've been thinking about the advice given in the other thread about "Neighbors" and tbh I didn't like it. I respect "survival" in the sense of doing what's best, safests, easiest, fastests, etc... without regard to "personal pride" and acting like Rambo, but the idea of fleeing a neighborhood and leaving everyone else behind to be victims to the predators does not sit well with me, and so in response to those (to be honest, common sense) suggestions, I offer the 3rd alternative to "staying and surviving" and "fleeing" being, "fighting, and getting them before they get you".

These criminals on my block, would be using the children of the people left behind as prostitutes. Literally. There's rumors that they do that already. And times are good. They're FAT. Food Stamps, Section 8 Housing, Disability Checks and cops pretend like half the block doesn't sell marijuana. When everyone that CAN flee, DOES flee, this street with be no better than some dirt street in some 3rd world hellhole like Liberia. On my street, the cops will be the FIRST to flee, so if there are any starry-eyed pollyannas on this forum that would like to fantasize about some civilian militia being led by a former cop like the "Walking Dead" forget it. These cops are Post Officer letter carriers with a different uniform, a badge and a gun, and they have ALMOST as much courage.

I admire your dedication to your community and the good people in it. You lost me on the computer stuff, but I'm technology illiterate. I would question a database that anyone could update, as how do you know it's accurate? What if someone didn't like you and put false info about you on it?
I do like the idea of a militia of sorts. You might be suprised by some of the cops though. Yes, a lot are doughnut eating ,non caring and just paycheck collecting, but not all. You might be able to connect with some and see if there is allready some sort of plan in place for a militia or something like it. If not, find some others in the community and start something of your own. If you are determined to stay where you are, which I really do admire, you cannot do it on your own. Getting an organized group together, working together not just on security but on food and water and caring for the elderly etc. would top my list of priorities. I would talk with pastors in the local area and see if any one else has started anything too.
I like your wanting to be a part of a solution to a problem. Good luck to,you.

That sucks, my response got lost! Here we go again,
First off, I really admire your dedication to your community and the good people in it. I almost feel guilty for the flee and save yourself opinion I gave on the other thread.
I got lost on your computer details on a database, but am of the age that most of us are technology illiterate. As far as a database that is open for all to update, that kind of scares me. How would you know if the info is accurate? What if someone didn't like you and put false info about you on it? Just thinking here...
As far as a militia is concerned, you hit on a really good idea here. You cannot stay where you are on your own, period. However, with a group of like minded individuals, you could. I think you might consider talking to some police about your idea. Yes, there are doughnut eating, just collecting a salary ones, but there are some good ones too. I wouldn't be suprised if there were allready some plan for a militia like group in place. You would probably be better off to talk to someone higher up. If there's not something in place, perhaps they could help with getting something started. Local pastors would be a good place to see if anyone else has anything allready in place. You're going to need a group that isn't just focused on security, but on community welfare too, like food, water, medical needs for the elderly, etc. If you can't find something allready in place to join, be the catalyst and start something. I bet a church would be willing to offer a meeting place for a group meeting every couple weeks if asked.
Just a thought, look up CERN. It's an acronym for community emergency response network. They have groups all over the country. I think the organizational plan they use is close to what your wanting. If there's not a group near you, maybe travel a little to the closest one and see if they could give some help on starting something for your area.
I wish you the best of luck in getting something started there.

@Brent S , those are good ideas. I dig the CERN concept.

Some of my concerns over the OP are that there's little accountability there. There are plenty of ex-cons and former trouble makers that have gone straight and aren't still in the fray. You can't just run out and "Strike" every former gang member or former criminal, and making pre-emptive strikes could lead to the very problem you're looking to avoid. Overall, I think that even people that have muddied up pasts can turn around and be capable in dire times. I think too, that many "Good guys" will go bad when things actually really put their morality to the test. "Walk softly and carry a big stick" Is the concept I'm looking to uphold when things get spooky.
