Hey gang, back from a great vacation in Oregon. from the coast at Gold Beach almost to Medford many ideas were put into trials but I should have brought more SOCKS. Oh well, the blisters are all healed now and feet are ready to rumble some more.
one thing I wanted to share which was put to good use as were many "fire starting techniques", this one is very cool which I had known that "oranges" are a bit flammable and you may have at some point taken a piece of orange peel and put a lighter to it. Squeezing the orange peel you notived the flame from the lighter seemed to light the spurts of fliud spraying out right?
Take an orange and cut a hole in the top, about 2 inches in diameter and clean out some of the good stuff and eat it. Don't want to waste a good snack. after you've cleaned out the hole at least down 2 inches take a coarse rock and place it in the hole making sure the top of the rock stays dry. Next, take a dry stick and place it on the rock and the top between your hands. Your going to spin it just like the old boy scout trick for making a fire.
Friction is what we want. As you spin the stick and create heat and friction the liquid and gases in the orange will ignite and you will have a fire, small but it will be there and just in time as the sun is dropping below the horizon and you need a fire to offset the frigid temps coming your way.
give it a try. On the trip we ate and made fire with at least a dozen oranges, I ate many more.
Here is a video that shows it really does work. A lemon should work too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=vZp_q_7IExA
Just another tidbit to enhance your survival knowledge and your cravings for a good snack.........................................Cheers!

Where are you getting your info? Have you used any of these or know of someone who has? Knowledge is power if the knowledge is correct. Just looking for input!

Most of these I personally use with my family and is based on traditional medicine here. In addition, our Department of Health has issued a study on these plants.

Is that clear? I am quite offended by the statement "Where are you getting your info? ... Have you used any of these or know of someone who has?" To be frank, I do not post "knowledge" here that is BS. I wouldn't waste my time.

I have been using herbs and traditional medicine all my life hence am quite familiar with them and their toxicity levels.

Overloads,
It was not my intentions to offend, I don't mind doing this when the need is warranted. I have seen a lot of "BS" on the net. I was sincere and genuine when I ask the questions. As I am very interested in your craft. My apologies for offending you. I am also assuming, that being that you were offended that you are very competent in herbal medicine. I would like to learn from you. It seems as you may have the knowledge I am looking for. Again no I'll intentions were meant.

Look at did, still would like to ask if you have used these plants? And the out come?
No disrespect is intended!! I genuinely would like to know.

Hi doc pops. I was offline. Apology accepted. That's the thing about written text, the intent is not really shown. It is no problem

I am not a 100% expert on Herbal and Traditional medicine but I have been living my whole life on medicine based on these. I don't mind sharing my experience and knowledge.

Whenever we have colds, we use Oregano (dahong maria) or Lagundi. And within 2 days, everything is cleared up.

www.doh.gov.ph has the list of the 10 medicinal plants approved by our government.

Thanks for the Info, have to work today. Hope to look into this, this evening/night

We used to use blackberry or dewberry roots to cure diarrhea .

Even the berries themselves have some medicinal value. I remember growing up, at a family reunion my stomach was bothering me and I didn't want to eat anything. My grandmother kept telling me "Eat some blackberry cobbler." I finally did, and my stomach felt fine after that.

There is an extensive government study in which blackberries had the highest antioxidant level per serving of any food tested.

The berries of dwarf palmettos or saw palmettos will help with prostate problems.

Walnuts are good for the heart.

Cranberries are good for the kidneys.

The thorns of the honey locust tree have anti-inflammatory and anti-mutagenic properties.

When I was about 4 yrs old I had a bad case of the squirts, the Drs had done every thing they could! My great grandmother a black foot Indian got some blackberry wine out of her basement and started giving me teaspoons every 15 min. In an hour, I have been told that I was corked up. My mother was not impressed at first! Then was very happy. At 51 yrs old I guess it worked, subsequently I have used it numerous times raising 5 kids and now have grand kids. I also know this works on colic! While helping my son and daughter in law move a cross country from Cali.to GA. My grand son was colicie, the daughter in law was told by pediatric Dr. that all he needed was breast milk for the first year? WTF? Anyway I got some bb wine from a river rat in Ga. I know and in an hour no more crying no more gastric rumbling for two weeks, then she tryed a repeat has not had any more colic. My sons mother in law went through the roof she wanted to report me to the S.O. , and she did! I explained to the deputy what was going on and that I was a medic, we had tried all that the pediatric Dr. suggested to no avail. He laughed and said his family had done that for years. Told me not to worry "he would have to have an investigator look into it" :) ! Told me to enjoy my grandson! Not to worry about the investigation the detective was his brother.

Hey guys & gals, check out Doomandbloom.com they have all kind of info medicinal plants and essential oils, plus they have printable info there arechives, for those with no formal medical training, or if you do just to brush up on some things you don't use every day. eg: environmental emergencies, burns, (snake, spider, wasp/bee, dog, human bites), setting up a group medic, what OTC you should have on hand, what type of antibiotics and what each one covers... There is much much more! And yes they do have an online store with there book ×2 ! This is not meant as an add but a place you can get vast medical knowledge from a Doctor and his wife an ARNP/ certified midwife. And you can ask questions, via email.
Just some food for thought. Also there is a place called Aquatic Pharmacy, all of there antibiotics are in date and U.S.P. most the antibiotics have pictures of the pills, which is good because you can look them up in the pill finders ( I use Drugs.com)

Do your home work and research, that is what is all about.

Good luck, be safe, God bless
