This is a no slip grip. Its deeply textured g10 scales. Its more like sand paper. Chances of sliding onto the blade are slim. This is not a fighting knife, its a back up ambush knife.

A hand guard is nice but, in real knife fighting doesn't mean a lot. Most hand guards are blow over from what is more like short sword fighting. The hand guard on the Bowie was added so that it could handle sword canes and the like. knife on knife you don't really go blade on blade. It's more like boxing. Trading blows. You just hope yours are in better areas to kill him...

Ok make sense new ways come along all the time and like said the only fighting knives i ever handled was my grandpa's karbar Marin knife and my dad's Bowie knife from back in Vietnam so I would say some of the stuff they learned me was probably a little old school just wondering what would be the difference between a fighting knife and a backup ambush knife

So I have been thinking about what you all said about the boot knife was easier to carry then the larger fighting knives like the Bowie knife and I found two that I like and wanted to see if any of you have any dealings with them the first one is my favorite it a cold steel counter tac 1 from what I have read sounds like it would be really good for what I was looking for the second one is the s&w boot knife on the lower end I know but pretty much all the reviews on it are pretty good but it the main one I was wondering if anyone has had it before i well probably go with the cold steel unless any of you all have really liked the s&w a lot

I'm biased towards Cold Steel I must have about ten of their blades stashed here and there, I got hooked onto them with the MK 1 Voyagers with the moulded on pocket clip, still have a couple of Voyagers and the Ultimate Hunter. My choice would be the Tac 2 as I like something more discrete but both are fine blades.

The counter tac 1 is a great ambush knife. Not a good fighting knife. Used to surprise an enemy it excels at stabbing (AKA the Fairbairn-Sykes "drager" system of fighting) however, be aware the blade is a cupped design (aka flat on one side).

I would never trust my life with a Smith and Wesson product. I guarantee the executives at S&W don't either.......

A fighting knife "AKA Trading blows knife" needs to do the most damage with one swing like the tanto or kukri style knifes.

Even the Vaquero style is a fighter..

The Bowie was used as a fighter but, it is a blow back from the old sword fighting days. You need a big one to really do damage. Like 8 inches plus...

This is what I personally carry on my plate carrier vest.

Cold steel Warcraft Tanto!!! Lol. Watch till the end of the video and you'll understand why I love this knife. The 7 inch model is the one I carry.

Jesus Christ, how the hell they make something that hard that don't shatter, I was impress with putting it in the vise and trying to bend it with a pipe. First thing that come to my mind was how fast I can quarter an elk... Nice demo!!!!

Wow now that a knife know this might be a green Horne question but I am thinking a fighting knife is what I need and not a ambush knife because the only two ways I could see going to a knife would be if something really bad went wrong with my pistol and did not have time to fix it not to likely to happen with one that is well made and take care of but things can go down with no warning the other time would be when it two close or there is to big of a danger of a shot going through and hit some one else

Hah my old Cold Steel XL Tanto Voyager was also that good. The meanest sharpest most hornery 6 inch blade I ever owned. Sadly UK law meant I had to drop to a 3 inch voyager.

Hum maybe I need to look at a folding knife more I was thinking a fix blade was more along what I was looking for because they were stronger and faster to get to

Anymore a good folder is almost as strong as a good fix blade in terms of strength and durability and usability, in my book versatility is more important than just a cool looking fix blade. I've seen some of CS folding fighting blades and am impressed. For versatility I have been eyeing the CS folding Kukri knife for a while.
