I have never owned a firearm. I don't like hunting. If I were going to get one, I would buy a handgun to protect my house. I guess I've just never felt one necessary.

When has shtf before in yours or my lifetime?

You come to a preppers forum and make arguments against prepping and throw out there your anti-2A right off the bat. You're in the wrong forum brother, the only conclusion one can come to is you are trolling.

And to answer your post, complacency will be your downfall! Andrew, Katrina and Sandy come to recent mind, the folks caught up those storms would call it SHTF, SHTF doesn't mean just long term nor indefinite. You have the wrong idea about prepping and preppers in general, prepping isn't just about firearms nor is it just about SHTF and TEOTWAWKI.

Tom, if you don't like guns or just don't think they're necessary...it's cool. There are lots of weapons to choose from. Most people never need a firearm to protect themselves, right up to the point when they do. And then if they don't have one.....well.
I choose to have one (ok, more than one) to protect myself, my family, and others who may or may not have one. And yes, I've been at that point where I needed one.

SHTF doesn't always mean an end-of-the-world type of event. It can be a multi-week kind of disaster or an event that lasts only a few minutes. I've seen plenty of SHTF type of events of the short duration type. Some close, some far away. That's why most of us are on this page. To learn some good ideas so we can be ready if an SHTF event lands in our lap.

Ten years ago, white Juan. My city was hit with a snow storm. The snow banks before shoveling were almost 6 feet high. The power was out luckily for only 5 days for us because we're by a relay station. Others were not so lucky and were without for two weeks or more.

Quebec in the 90's ice storm, 250,000 Km's of power lines were taking down in two days, some were without power for over a month. Folks always think folks like us are waiting for the end of the world, and to that there is only one response. It will end. In about one and a half billion years when the sun grows so large and it cannibalizes the inner planets, so no, there's no worry about that.

If my furnace breaks, that is something for me to think about. I get regular maintenance on it, that is preparing (prepping), I get regular maintenance on my vehicle for the same reasons. Making sure I have fuel for my snowblower, generator, my lawn mower, chainsaw. Anyway, take care.

I think guns are great AS LONG AS THE USER HAS PROPER TRAINING. Too many times you see people not lock their guns up properly, and a child gets a hold of one and someone ends up dead.

I'm all for keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, but they absolutely SHOULD NOT be illegal for law-abiding citizens with not criminal records. I even think fully automatic weapons should be legal for law-abiding citizens with no criminal history, provided they have gone through proper safety training. You see it all the time where a bad guy with a gun is taken down by a good guy with a gun. It makes zero sense to take the guns out of the hands of the good guys.

find nothing wrong in having guns, you just have to have proper training and common sense, use and store them wisely, don't treat them like toys, they ain't.

nice of you coming to troll to a prepper forum, well we all get our personal kicks from something

Millions of Americans feel the same way Tom but, that doesn't make them right. My very good friend felt that way until two gentlemen broke into her house and attempted to rape her. Her gun nut neighbor shot one in the back before they could get started. She was stripped and tied down face first on the bed. She tried telling them that she was a Christian and that if they just took what they wanted she would look away. They wanted to rape her. There was no other evidence that they wanted to burglarize the house. They both had shaved themselves head to toe and had condoms and knives. This friend of mine was my client immediately after this event, I was her contracted protector for two years after and handled her protection training, we became good friends during this time. She still sends clients my way and I love her to death. She had several chances to defend herself to be proactive instead of passive. Hell, she let them into her house because they had broke down and needed a phone. They went as far as to leave one outside so she felt safe. He was simply watching out while the other struck her and tied her down. Her neighbor luckily saw through her window what was happening called 911 and left the phone off the hook, got his hand gun, and went to help. After the full investigation they found that these two intended to kill her after. This hasn't happened to you so you have no reason to take any precautions but, I hope you will. I don't need another client like her but, I'm always ready to make a friend.

Even if she was able to call the police, it would have taken them too long to get there. This is why a good guy with a gun is the best defense against a bad guy with a gun, and also why I think fully automatic weapons should be allowed for U.S. citizens with perfectly clean records.

There's something like 350k robberies a year in the US, and that was back in 2015.

Most of which would of been home invasions, I'd say the SHTF for the victims of these crimes, wouldn't you?

Just because it hasn't happened to you, doesn't mean it won't happen to you and that it doesn't happen to anyone else.

in my own country and in my area Police numbers have been halved in recent years and 34 Police stations have either already been shut or are in the process of being shut, due to "budget cuts". the nearest manned Police station will be 25-30 miles away, on our roads this will take the best part of an hour even at top speed, any home invasion in this time will be long over and the criminals would be long gone.

While I agree, full auto isn't really advisable other than the claim to the cool factor. While the f-auto is a superb trench sweeper or within a rifle squad putting up a defensive wall of lead as the last resort in suppressing an offensive charge, it really doesn't have practical value other than waste lots of ammo, the only time I ever used f-auto in the Military was sweeping the jungle in hopes to suppress an unseen shooter (it worked but never did find the shooter) aside from that I never really used f-auto in a fire fight.

Easy.

One state over...Louisiana, Hurricane Katrina. Quite a few days of lawlessness. Easy to be just another body floating in the river because someone had what you wanted.

Don't kid yourself, SHTF events can be localized too. Even in our sheltered 1st world existence.

Yet, for millions, SHTF is everyday life. For example, Aleppo.

That's pretty much the only purpose I can see for full-auto. Suppression fire.
Even when I play paintball, that's all I use it for. (the scare and intimidation factor keeps them pinned).

Though the other purpose is to just really light someone up if they are dodging around a lot. Even then, it doesn't always hit them though. Better off with aimed shots.
