im a 3 HR drive from the south side.i guess 2 HR drive from the north side..we're on high ground.and the ground was pretty dry to begin with.so the slow steady rain we got so far. aint been to bad..
Glad to hear it friend. You got enough on your mind right now without worrying about being flooded. The pictures of Houston are really bad.

Yes they are. . . BIL is stranded away from home. His house got flooded. Sis is OK, just no power. The thing that saved us so far was we didn't have saturated grounds. Had this happened back in June we would have been screwed! We had heavy to steady rains till about noon then slacked off to light until now. Gave the water time to recede. It started rolling thunder again and heavy rains. Flash flooding and tornado watch all day. Have been up since wee hours this morning and looks like it will be another all nighter now or at least until it slacks off. I will be moving my babies if water gets too high. Goats are healed up in the barn all day. . . they don't like to get wet. Water hauled in along with their feed. If not they would probably starve and die of dehydration. . . no joke. Had to remove debris in front of gates to allow drainage. Good thing we have ditches dug around property to help with this.

On the bright side working on granddaughter's quilt and crocheting on my blanket.

About How far and what direction are you from Houston? The forecasts right now are for it to circle around an ego right over Houston and head NE from there, slowly and very wet.

An observation.

People on this forum and other prepper forums I read have all offered support to one another if needed. Yet nobody has asked for anything even if they do have some issues. And these guys are setting up ham radio setups to help communications since cell phones aren't working.

Yet if you listen to the news, hundreds or thousands of people are stranded, doing nothing, and just waiting for 'help'. I normally joke that when seconds matter, cops will be there in 15 minutes. This is no different: when minutes/hours matter, gov't help will be there in a couple of days.

But this is your typical person. They don't prepare for anything even when every radio & TV is screaming to get ready and get out NOW (before the emergency). They trust that 'help' will be a phone call away and minutes away. But note these aren't people around Rockport which took the brunt of the eye, these helpless (useless?) people are the citizens of Houston. "Big city" clueless folks. It seems small towns are more in touch with reality.

So to all my fellow preppers, well done. It's not over yet and you have performed admirably.

I am east of Houston. We are expecting rains until Sun. 100 % for Mon & Tues then gradually going down. We had 7 1/2 in rain today for s total of 20 in the last couple. Houston is lower elevation than us with more rainfall.

I have been impressed with the small communities lending out a hand in support and rescue. Lots of civilians out in search of stranded and others welcoming into their home. Lots of communities banding together. Houston has its good but also has its hand me out. . . TexasFreedom you are right on!

So far we have had a little over 20 inches for rain the last couple days. Dont know about last nights total. Rains heavy during night then slack up during the day giving us a little time to drain off. Been pouring all night. . . have never seen the water this high before in yard. Have at least another hour before it slacks. Think I will be late for work today.

Talked to boss last night. Her and her family rescued by boat. But her area prone to flooding. Mine, never before that I know of. We are considered high.

we got 3 3/4 inches since saturday morning..the rain let up yesterday afternoon.now it looks like that we're in for more rain..

Attempted to go into work. Roads covered in water and water going into homes. Two towns next to me are mandatory evacuation. Electric went out while I was leaving for work but generator now going. Saw lots of flat bed trucks rolling by when I got out to a highway. I cross over highway to another farm road to go to work. . . everything flooded so came back home. Water is going down and we are seeing green. Goats still above water but cows are wading.

Local ranchers have been given the OK to release their cattle into the roadways to escape rising waters. Gator country had over 350 alligators escape refuge and to top it off, there is another rainmaker out in the Gulf over by Mexico that could effect us by this weekend. Life just keeps getting better . . . We honestly both just laughed cause if not you'd want to cry. This is just crazy to see this Hurricane build up to a 4 so quickly and then linger for this long. Never have I seen something like this happen here and have lived here (minus 6 months) all my life. I'm even wearing a long sleeve flannel shirt in August!!

Cedar Beyou in TX has had 52 inches of rain since Friday, I cannot imagine ordinary folks having the funds to prep for that, now it looks like Lousiana is getting hammered with a threat of 10 inches heading for new Orleans

Updates.

We continue to get updates from friends in the Houston area. I would have thought rising floods would have peaked Tuesday. Many friends thought they had been spared. But Tuesday, into Wednesday, into Thursday, we were getting updates from friends showing water at the neighbor's yard, ,then 3" into the house, then 4 hours later 3 feet into the house, then 7 feet deep, then the next morning the roof not visible from a boat.

The water is still rising across the area. Rescues are ongoing.

Keep in mind I'm 150 miles away. Even here, 2 days ago all gas stations were sold out. One got gas yesterday & was sold out within 2 hours. This is in a town of maybe 20k people (10 gas stations?). One friend closer to Houston paid $9/gal yesterday.

Unfortunately with all the attention on Houston, Rockport is getting completely ignored. 80% of homes there were destroyed. People there are stranded, many needing to get rescued. Yet all the help and attention are going to Houston.

Stay in prayer.

This is why we prep and its a shame so many of these people dont. When will people understand that you can not depend on others (government) to protect you and family? Unfortunatly most never will. I do not fear these disasters, but I do fear the unprepared. When the unprepared panic and are in fear, they will not use logic or reasoning and can be extremely unpredictable and dangerous.
