Okay gang,

Here is a PDF I wrote that is simple to help those who have zero experience in building a foxhole or fighting pit. Let me put this out there, it is not meant to override any military lessons or manual, its a basic explanation in simplest terms without several pages of a manual. I agree with many of you that their are thousands of ways to build one, types of material, where to place them, etc. Feel free to comment and add any suggestions, but just remember, I was simply trying to write an non-military document for our preppers who have very little military experience or have never tried building one.

Let me warn you on this issue: Building one is a "Pain in the BacK", I know what your thinking, lol, but I didn't say it. Anyone who has dropped a shovel, hunched over, jumped inside one to remove more dirt has only nice things to say about their experience (I mean that with all my love to my gunny and my platoon sergeants).

However, we've been spoiled lately with a great British invention called HESCO products and while the foxhole building has not given way to HESCO fortification, most hard bases have miles of perimeters of this stuff lining their base camp or airfield. Its logical, fast and quite an improvement from other materials used to harden a base, especially one that needs to be built over-night. Why did I post this, simply because as civilians now and unless you have a stash of $$, I simply don't see you having your home or BOL fortified with HESCO. So, this is the simplest form of information I can offer to the lamen that will offer some limited protection, a defensive position that has stood the test of time.

For more information regarding better desciption, please consider obtaining the military FM on "Survivability", it has additional information for you to consider if you want to fortify your home either pre or when the SHTF. The pdf is to large for me to place on this thread. Unless you want to PM me your email address, I'd be happy to send it to you from my database.

Good luck and as I said, if you have a back hoe, then their is nothing to worry about your back.

digging a foxhole with your tiny shovel is....lovely ;)
digging enough to build a bunker is...even more lovely... but knowing how could save you.., thanks Silent Bob for the pdf

Something I'll have to add post SHTF, as when I put them in, it would pretty much make the area unusable as a horse pasture. Post SHTF, not an issue, I can restrict it down to one pasture to use...but prior to that, need all available in case we get a lot of boarder horses. Seems to happen in spurts anyhow.
