that's exactly what it's going to come to, if parents don't get ahold of and care about what direction the public school system is going. I'm not saying every one has to home school (although I think it's a good idea! lol haha) But, if you choose to send your kids to a brick and mortar school find out what they are teaching and how they are teaching it. (IE will a wrong answer in math be marked as correct as long and little Bobby showed his work on how he got the wrong answer? lol). Are they teaching them how to sign their name (which gosh darn, if they aren't how hard was it for this last generation of parents to of set down one evening and teach their kids?). And if it's not up to snuff, put your voice out there and make it happen! But, that's how the society we live in right now. Sub par seems to be sufficient to the masses these days. As my grandparents would of said, half assed! Mediocrity is the norm now.
