Welcome, from Florida. Is it true (or an exaggeration) that most of the Australian wildlife is poisonous and/or dangerous to some degree?

I've heard stories about your snakes.

A lot of our snakes are very poisonous. Our funnel web spider is deadly, our platypus will make you wish you were dead if it stings you. In the northern parts salt water crocs will actively hunt you, in the southern parts the great white shark will do the same. Bull sharks will hunt you in the ocean and even in rivers hundreds of km inland. Box jellyfish are deadly, kangaroos sometimes attack humans and dingoes are known to kill our babies.

I spend a fair bit of time in the bush. I carry a snake bite kit, a sat phone and usually a gun. If you are careful it is unlikely you will get killed.

True story. A mate of mine from 3RAR was training against US soldiers at Talisman Sabre in Nth Qld. They were in an ambush position watching a US patrol approaching. The yanks were sitting ducks, because they were constantly looking above them for drop bears.

....or the toggle snakes. On TS, one of the Cpls asked the US Army blokesif they had toggle rope, which you must tie around your leg to a tree, to stop you being dragged off by the toggle snakes. Can't use normal rope, as their venom will eat through it. Two of his mates walked up with toggle rope around their ankles. He sold his for $75.
