A close friend of mine put a floor safe in the slab of his house in the HVAC air intake space behind the filter. It got flooded during Hurricane Katrina and rusted closed. Luckily he took everything out before the water had risen. Its still there rusted shut.

Remembering where stuff is located is definitely a challenge, not only that but someone besides yourself needs to know just in case of sudden death. There should be a key(as in a written document indicating where things are) that is easily accessible. In this way you only need to recall where the "key" is. I have documented the serial numbers for my weapons on an index card and squirreled it away. I need to do the same for items that I have hidden and let someone know where it is.

Wow, someone will discover it someday and think they've found a prize.

I like the suggestion that someone had about not having anything of value.
My parents have been discussing giving us money (due to their age) and they don't want it to be traceable. They do not want us to put it into a bank, soooooo. If they do it then I need to find the safest place I can think of to put it. It would be difficult to be a prepper and possess only valueless items.

I have a similar one in a linen closet. I had to reinforce the shelf it's on, to hold it, and kind of bolted it in. Then, just stacked some folded washcloths in front of it to hide it, in a closet with towels and other linens. You'd pretty much have to know it's there to find it. Yet still very accessible. Not worried about revealing it here....mostly as I just keep some handguns and documents in it, and my son's knives (that's just another story).....

It used to have a good bit of emergency cash in there, but....alas....no longer.... :(

We have a great soda can safe, for my wife's "medicinals". She's still waiting on the damn card from the state, to make it more legal.

I love the outlet safes and air vent safes too, though haven't messed with them yet.

Great idea, you can message me where the key is, just in case.

But if people THINK you have nothing.

One of the tactics of going to auctions. You look like you don't have two nickels to rub together. I have seen the poorest looking people driving poorer looking vehicles spending hundreds of dollars. I have read that to judge a persons wealth look at their shoes or watch, but it doesn't reveal much as far as I have been able to detect

A lot of very rich people are also very cheap. ;)

As for the "key" idea, yeah, we are looking to get a safety deposit box, with documents on where stuff is, safe combos, etc. So, if we go, our kids can actually locate everything. (not that they deserve it, lol)...

But, we are also looking to do all kinds of pre-planned and pre-paid funeral stuff, so that when the time comes, they don't have to lift a finger. (not so much out of concern, but more because there's simply a) no way they could pay for it, and b) no way they'd be able to follow any of our wishes).

Exactly, I don't know if they can get into a safe deposit box, think you have to have their name on it and they must provide a signature, better check on it. I believe this is due to valuables that the wonderful government wants to tax. I do already have my plot purchased. I have my instructions written and a will. That is as far as I have gotten. I have the plans from MEN for wooden box.
