not many threads here ,,,,most of us may as well face it,,,we are well past the time when we had a chance to try for NAVY SEAL,,,,,I work a physical job, sawmill work you can not work in one and be soft,,,see your doctor make sure your heart is ok with no blockages and check for cancer,if you do have a problem mine is high BP look for natural treatments for it ,if the SHTF there are not going to be many doctors around and the drugstore will be closed,,,,,,,get out and walk ride a bike,we older folks need low impact excercise and try to shed some of the bucket ### most of us are carrying around

right now as I'm 51 I'm currently at the fitness level of a 45 year old,my goal is to get the same results as a 35-40 year old,as it would get me a place in our equivalent of the national guard as a medic.

My fitness plan is just day to day living. There is very little level ground on my place so everywhere I go is up or down hills. This last Spring/Summer I put in 400-500 fence posts just repairing my fence lines, all by hand and in some very steep terrain. Walking around the perimeter of the fence would be a hike of several miles. Going down the driveway to the mail box is a 4 mile round trip hike and an 800 foot change in elevation. Plus all the construction around here has gotten me in fair condition. Once we get some snow on the ground I'll start running my trap line. I'm just doing a small line this year of about 50 square miles which will require walking several miles a day. I'm not exactly where I want to be yet but over this past year I've dropped 35 pounds and have firmed up quite a bit. Not bad for a geezer of 59. The young wife seems pleased.....

I am looking for a natural medicine to replace Plavix which I take for my heart. I do have a bad heart however I am active. I walk lots and with the girls and our dogs and having the chickens and duck keeps me busy. I have built all new chicken pens all on my own. I carry around 2x4's almost daily. Carry around 50 pound bags of feed daily along with hay bales. But I do take my meds daily.

you old dog,,,,,,,,,,,,how young is she??????????????

I did a lot of hiking and climbing but anymore it is getting harder keeping up with Lisa, I don't do vertical repelling anymore given muscle cramp is the worse when dangling (trust me on that), I'll leave that to Lisa though generally it's for her work today. We are not actively looking for caves these days something she misses though give her a few more years and she is going to start hurting too, that spunkiness only last so long. Age has a way to handicap many activities regardless of shape! Not listening to the body can be crippling and I have ripped enough muscles by being in denial, lesson learned!

As we age there is some activity we just can't do anymore but there are many more activities we still can do, just improvise because all them broken bones and torn muscles will catch up with you as you age. That's why it is imperative to test your limitations at least once a year especially past age 40, past 50 least every 6 months given problems will sneak up on you with very little warning and at the worst time!

if they grant me a possibility to apply for that reserve unit,I have about 2,5 months to prep for them tests, not much time, but, what the heck,I'm giving my best, not telling my close ones about it,they will nag about it along the lines;you are too old for that, stay comfy ;)

seems like the first hurdle is done, got an email welcoming me to the information breefing for the reserve unit in january..
Good luck with it. I remember a friend took the physical part of the fire department test. He said it almost killed him, and he was only 24! Sorry, I should be more positive here, you'll do great..... Seriously, if you put your heart and mind into something then there's nothing you can't do. More good advice here, don't ever listen to people that never accomplish anything.

I know I'm not any spring chicken anymore ;)
but two years in school, with some excercise and what I'm doing now should help, my oldest son said something comforting; that 12min running test is more mental than anything else,it will hit you at 6 min and saying you are gonna die, just push further!!
