Life is not about what you would like to do, it is about what you CAN do. Now if you actually can do what you would like to do, then that is great, But don't confuse the two.
She lacked creativity but liked the idea of being of being creative. There are a lot of task oriented jobs that she could have made a very good income on. Oh, well, it's her life, not my decision, not my life.
 
Ignore the government telling you to prep. As out Russian brother pointed out, there has been reasons to be prepared since time began.

Real preppers, be that those in urban areas or those homesteading are the ones that are always working at it, not those who just come on board when the next event hits the news like Y2K, 9/11, change in President, etc.

We had forest fires in Nova Scotia. Friend had to bug out with family and dog and live somewhere else for a week. Others are still away after two weeks, 72 hours is nothing. Hikers can take care of all their needs for a week or two without being survivalists. Thru-hikers can be in the woods for up to six months because they have preplanned for their foods and needs, what we would call cache, as well as stopping in to a town about once a week.
