There is flooding going on in New Orleans. There is a hurricane in the gulf, but it is still out by a couple of days.
Lots of people trying to get out now ( which is good) but there are people still going into the city.
Not only are they not prepared, but they are unaware of the danger itself.
This is going to be a disaster.

In the 70's I worked a major flood in New Orleans on a Red Cross Disaster Action Team. I was completely appalled at the behavior of the people and officials, and even the local Red Cross chapter. Politicians were on soap boxes in parking lots giving speeches about how their opponents were to blame. Civil Defense and the Local Red Cross were at each others' throats. We could not find local volunteers to help, all the volunteers were from out of town (local volunteers normally do the majority of the work in a disaster). At the relief center we started, I never saw a single person from the local Red Cross chapter. In fact we didn't see anybody there doing anything for the flood victims besides ourselves. First Responders were not even going into some of the areas that were flooded.

Sounds like New Orleans.

I stayed through Katrina in New Orleans , then Metairie the day after. Everyone in new Orleans was going crazy. Completely un organized and chaotic and no regard for people's constitutional rights! And that was just the people in law enforcement and national guard troops.

My prepper group will be having a meeting and workshop on Saturday. Most everyone will be off of work and riding out the storm, so I figured it was a great opportunity to have our monthly meeting get together. We will prepare some freeze dried and SHTF food and help each other with skills and preps.

And maybe clean out the boat while you’re at it.....;)

I hope everything is going well and y'all are staying safe.

Rellgar, I was talking to a fellow just this past week about Katrina. He said about the same thing. He was down there for a month. He said the gov't agencies were a complete mess. They didn't know which pumps were on & which were even working. Local agencies were acting like it was their first day of work. Well, maybe it was the first day that actually had to 'work'? And the local citizens were doing nothing but waiting for someone to come 'fix' their situation. It was a blend of "Idiocracy" and "Atlas Shrugged".

I've been to NO a few times before. And it always looked to me like it needed a good flushing.
It's too bad that most people never think about being prepared until they're faced with a disaster.

AD. I've been a few times and some of the establishments serving food would have been condemned in any other city.

It’s an entertaining place and worth seeing at least once, espechially before it floods again. Hopefully this time they will be smart enough to not rebuild that far below sea level. I wasn’t impressed by the food either but was in the tourist spots and that food is never good. I’m sure like anywhere, if you know where to go there is some really good food there. I was impressed by the old architecture and beautiful estates there.

food is usually better when you go off the beaten path and find those places where natives eat.
it was like that when I went to Prague, tourist spots will rob the shirt of you, take a few side steps and the price was a third ( beer ) and food about same and only friendly locals.

Hey, I got a great idea....let's build a city 8' below sea level and call it "New Orleans!!"
