everyone will not only be up a creek without a paddle or canoe.but they will also be between a rock and hard spot if that does happen..plus,i wouldn't be surprised one bit if the death toll and injury toll will be much greater then what their saying/predicting...i don't think a 1 year supply much less a 3 day supply of food and water will be good enough...

Surviving the big quake has as much to do with luck as good prepping, what I would be very afraid of is a repeat of the after effects of H Andrew over FLA way IIRC. In the following 14 days some areas saw NO rescue or relief, others had cops, sheriffs and PSCs moving into neighbourhoods trying to disarm citzens who survived and were trying to protect their property. I remember Survivalists in FLA and I think it was GA ( terrible on US geography) reporting efforts by local officials to try and confiscate their caches, stores and supplies.

Here we get a heads up before a hurricane hits. . . the biggest death toll was about 200 but more like 300 unofficial. That would be a BIG benefit but earthquakes are unpredictable along with tsunamis, I could only imagine how devastating it would be for the west coast with CA's heavy populations. With that said, the Government needs to stay off the prepared doorsteps if they are able to survive the initial hit. That is just adding to the overall problem. . . just let them be. I do know that will not happen though

Since FEMA is using all those tax payer dollars, I certainly hope they are preparing for a major earthquake. Along with any number of other disasters. I really hope they are investing our dollars wisely. I like to think that I have most emergencys covered, and am prepared for just about anything, but you never know when or if you'll need a helping hand. I like to think of my tax dollars going towards FEMA as part of my prepping budget.

FEMA has a fairly large warehouse here in region x on top of contracts with the likes of home depot/lowes etc... as their logistics distribution centers, as far as money wisely spent, here in region x this is what they have done so far... https://www.fema.gov/region-x/news

FEMA was originally 'Civil Defense' since the organization switched priorities to 'All-Hazards' it's name changed in 1979

Faults are actually found everywhere, even in Texas. I have heard from my way to smart sis that the house we grew up in was located along a fault line, but I never confirmed that one. It has never happened yet, it is a possibility one day.

Dormant faults are everywhere, doesn't mean they will awake just because it's a fault just like many mountains that once where volcanoes. There is practically no place on earth one can go that doesn't have faults. Since the advent of the internet we are seeing far more sensationalized stories regarding EQs for no other reason except to sell news papers, EQs behavior haven't changed in over a million years so why all the 'new' scary news on something that predates man?

Bottom line, yes EQs are real, yes the potential of the 'big one' in our life time is real.

Sounds like you all are talking of the big PNW quake where the Jaun De Fuca plate contacts the pacific plate. Runs from just north of frisco up to Vancouver. In testing the ocean floor on the Jaun De Fuca side, they found evidence of Tsunami's dating back several thousand years and the interval was about 240 years so that puts us at about 316 years since there was at least a 9.2 earthquake. Fremont, which is a few miles north of San Jose had 3 quakes last week and this is the southern most tip where the two plates meet. Hollywood has us all thinking that the big one will occur in central cal on the San Adreas fault. Michio Kaku and many others stated that the Juan De Fuca can muster 30 times more energy than the San Andreas and according to Michio, the media up there and FEMA, everything from I-5 out to the coast and from San fransisco to vancouver will be quick sand. It will liquify and as noted above the losses will be many. FEMA has published a map showing the affected areas.
I worked in San Jose during the oakland quake and when you witness the ground swirling around like it was liquid, watching railroad tracks that look like a snake squirming around it makes you feel as if you are hallucinating. It will be like the quakes in Japan and the testing that uncovered the evidence of I think 42 Tsunami's over the last several thousand years which they also have data that matched several tsunamis that started on the jaun de fuca fault and traveled all the way to Japan. The de fuca plate is trying to slide under the pacific plate and when it lets go the pacific plate will rise up then slam back down creating the tsunami which will come 15 minutes after the quake which could last 4 minutes at 9.2 or greater.
My wifes sister lives in Seatlle and she had not ever heard of anything about this danger. You would think they would be warning people even a little bit but they don't.

Michio is dead serious about this event coming very soon and the northwest being way over due for this type of disaster which from testing data shows that it has in fact been going on for thousands of years about every 240 years and now at 316 years michio swears it will happen very soon.
I use an online quake monitor which is usually turned on most of the day. It has been going crazy in the last 4 months showing quake after quake from san diego up to alaska and around back down to Japan following the pacific rim or ring of fire. some days there are as many as 35 and they occur a few every hour and it's funny that the place with the least amount of quakes is between los angelos and san fransisco on the san andreas fault. The majority are between san fransisco and anchorage.
God help those in the pacific north-west and help them prepare.
Being a member of my counties emergency services and amateur radio emergency services we have been discussing the possibility of being activated and sent to this region for SAR, communications and medical relief. We know more about this than most people up there. I think the media and news stations should be helping to educate and prepare the residence of that area in a way as to not create panic but make it possible for people to get the knowledge to understand what it is that may occur soon and to prepare properly so they can protect themselves, their families and their community.
I've read a lot of the testing data that confirms this is a real threat and I surely hope people can find a way to be safe and secure when and if the time comes. God protect them all.

we get in the ring of fire (15+/-) 7-7.9 (134+/-) 6-6.9 (1319+/-) 5-5.9 (13k+/-) 4-4.9 EQs thats 14,468 4.0 and greater per year not counting multiple less then 4.0 swarms in geological active areas, the entire surface of the earth is constantly moving! The de fuca plate is moving oughly 3" to 4" while the north American plate is moving roughly 1" a year, the EQs will come from the cascadia subduction zone, depending where the rupture is at in the subduction zone will determine the size of the EQ and if there be a catastrophic tsunami we don't know! With all the news that's been coming out as if something unusual is taking place, there is nothing unusual, everything that has been happening is all within the normal parameters. We all know someday we will be hit with the big one and that should have been the end of the story.

I'm glad people are taking notes and keeping an eye on current developments but the press is greatly getting carried away!
