I think the lack of safe water to drink would cause more problems than everything else combined for the general population.
So, you made some young woman live without running water for twelve years? Ever wonder why that marriage didn't work out.... Lol
we had two rivers that ran alongside our land, water wasn't a problem.

Both our hot water heater and furnace went out this winter. We managed to go a couple of weeks without the furnace, using the gas stove and indoor safe propane space heaters. The hot water heater was a dire emergency however, LOL. Boiling water on the stove for the bath like my grandma used to do was a royal pain, especially since the tubs are upstairs...

doing what without running water?

Living, of course. Sucks to not have running water. I know, I did it for 2 months, when we had a water issue at the ranch. I tried to fix it myself, but soon realized it would take more (but also more money we didn't have for a bit).

2 months? chicken feed! try doing it for 12 years, bathing and drinking from the river, hauling water for the plants, boiling all water on a stove. no bathroom of course, toilet was a hole in the ground, dug and filled in on a weekly basis.

We may all be there one day again.

I prep for lots of reasons, but like you I really hope I never have to actually use the stuff. Personally I think electricity and running water are damned nice things to have.
electricity is a fairly modern invention really, its only been about 85 years in the UK, not that most of the population could live without it, but that's their loss.
