Hey guys! Thigs are heating up with NK and i'm looking online for emergency food and found Wise Food and they have 720 servings for 1420 and they said you can make monthly payments. Would u guys recommend this? I'm just affraid they mught launch an emp and get through and the whole grid goes down.
 
That comes out to two serving a day for a year. If active even moderately you would need 2200-2700 calories a day, say on average each serving is 250 calories and your allotment is 2 servings per day to get a year out of this, you are lacking 1700 calories for the day. You need to add additional food, you would also need to have or a source for water, lots of it.

I have similar from various manufacturers roughly 20 buckets, I also have will over 700 #10 cans where we can make things from scratch plus a garden but I also have a lot of water and sources for the water.

These pay-as-you-go plans are great for the folks that can't come up with the whole balance but you need to weigh cost to needs. Also keep in mind that the servings are unrealistic unless you weigh 65lbs, generally speaking most will eat two servings per meal so now your 720 servings are reduced to 360 servings, still, that doesn't fulfill the calorie requirement.

These meal buckets should only be an addition to what you already have and planing to have.
 
I honestly think having stored foods is wise. That being said I think learning to grow and preserve your food is more important. Having a source of water, other than your tap, is the number one thing to start with. Being able to filter it or boil, or some way to make it safe to drink is number two. Food is the third thing on the list. Storage, production, preservation all go together. Something else I try to tell people is to kill an animal, clean it and cook it. Being able to find food is part of the deal too.
 
I wish i could afford to buy a lot more, but i don't make a lot, and a garden is out of the question because i live in an apartment, so that kind of sucks. Are you guys familiar with Wise, and do u think they have good deals or do u think there is something better?
 
I should add, I'm not trying to scare you from the purchases, long term food is a very good idea as Brent said above, many things need to be thought out, only you can say if it's worth it?, I would buy it as an additional source to what I already have if I was needing for my existing stock. I don't like purchasing everything from one source but brake it up amongst different manufactures. Wise Foods is a good brand.
 
I think a variety of sources as Maverick suggested is best. I have freeze dried food from Wise, Patriot, Legacy, Mountain house and a few things from Auguson farms.
The are all a bit different, I have tasted several of all of them and none are significantly better than the others.
I also have hundreds of cans of food and dried goods that I cycle through about a years worth. I keep 5+ years of spices, salt, suger, vinager, honey, coconut oil, etc...
I would start buying a few xtra items that your already buying, like canned and dry goods and rotate them. Buy a freeze dried food buckets as you can afford them.

Get at least 2 water filter devices/systems. Save your food grade plastic bottles to store water in. Repurpuse food containers.
Red beans and white rice last a long time and are not exspensive and provide a great amount of protien and carbs to sustain you.
Get a small garden and seeds to exspand it when neccessary.

I would say if you can afford it with the payment plans,then do it. It last such a long time, it wont be wasted.
 
just like others here..i've gotten foods from wise,and others..mine are here for me, for 2 reasons.1st,is they are my backup plan if their needed..2nd is,their nice to eat every once in a while.in the way of what i eat.but yet.like i pointed out.they are here as a back up plan for food to eat.so i hardly ever eat any of them..

so if you can afford them on the payment plan,and want them.go for it if you want..but yet.like mav pointed out.they fall short on calories.so include other foods to eat with them,..or if you can.mix something in with it.just to add more calories to it..
 
Those camping/emergency food packs are good to have as a backup, but you really need to figure out a way to replenish your food source on a regular basis. If the emergency last for longer than what you have in storage your screwed. Some apartment t complexes will let you grow a garden in their grass areas so check with them to see if it is possible. Or maybe a relatives householder. Even if its not, you can still grow a good amount in pots. Do some research, but there are plants that can be grown like kale and greens that you can harvest just the tops and they will grow back. Green onions from the grocery store are good in a small pot in a window will along with herbs. Options are there. Even if it is a small amount, you are still growing and replenishing. Trust me, when you cook up some rice, a handful of herbs make it taste so much better.
 
One more note to add on this. Only buy and store things you will actually eat. What good will tubs of oatmeal do if you don't like oatmeal? Freeze dried stuff tends to be more pricey than your everyday food, but I still think it's smart to actually use some of it and rotate as you add/replace. One thing to consider too is if you change your diet drastically to foods your not used to your likely to end up with an out of wack constitution.
