DP,
Great story! Electric cars have a great place to fill: it's called a golf cart. But when a car can't even drive down a random driveway...

Actually I'm impressed that an electric car can drive 2.5 hours. Maybe a tesla? Most of them have maybe a 100 mile range? 2.5 hours, that sounds like 150 miles each way. Then how many hours does it take to charge on a regular outlet? It's a joke. I drive a car for convenience this doesn't sound too convenient...

I know.

My only point is that terrorism seems to be driven by oil profits, and I would like to see our dependency on foreign oil decrease.
We could now, if it wasn't for government over regulations, politicians, and tree hugging wimps. We have more oil and gas in the US than in the middle East. We don't need their oil. ME oil is more about politics than need.

The destination was2.5 hours away. He drives a Leaf. I think they can only go 80 miles before having to be charged. He knew starting out he would have to stop and charge, but he didn’t know how he was going to do it. It was a bad plan all the way around.

Here is the perfect accessory for an electric car:

I think all of us in the U.S. would like to decrease our use of Saudi oil, but I don't see it happening....everybody wants to go when we want to go.....no one wants to wait on a charging vehicle or plan out a trip based on being able to charge a vehicle.....and when you do you can't decide to take a side trip unless you know if you can charge somewhere....the infrastructure to do it will be immense and will take many years to even start....and like I posted the untold amount of natural resources to build that infrastructure....I think the only way to make it viable would be to have wires like a subway setup every so many miles so you can hook up, continue to drive while charging and once full unhook and continue on.....how many people are really going to plan a vacation based on charging a vehicle ? we can't go there, no charging station.....we can't go there....no charging station....can you imagine in a bad situation when electric is out and people need to leave an area ? we got people now who can't even see the gas gauge and run out of gas....I can see nothing in my mind that electric vehicle will solve other than making a lot of idiot liberals happy regardless of the cost....Liberals would sell your kids and use that money to prove they are right even when wrong....

Here ya go:

The "EP Tender" - a generator on a trailer designed to be towed by an electric car. When your car batteries run low, the generator kicks in and supplies electricity.

So when you are in the middle of Kansas, instead of finding a recharging station, you find a gas station and fill up the generator.

Sort of a DIY hybrid LMAO!

Some say it defeats the purpose of having an electric car. Thank you Captain Obvious!

I can see it now ....backing this thing up, this ought to be fun! Maybe intended to be de-hitched prier to backing up? Short tongue on a short vehicle *sigh

I think California passed a law that after a certain year gasoline fueled cars can’t be sold in the State...?

I can convert my truck (72 Ranchero Cobra Jet) to propane if I want to. I cant convert it to electric.

I'm sure we would all love to stop buying oil from the M.E. Maybe someday we will, and electric vehicles will be a viable option. But.

Once enough people are using them, then there will be new taxes. Battery disposal tax, electrical grid burden tax, peak use period fees, Military fossil fuel vehicle support tax (jets wont ever be electric), Fossil fuel on road and off road fee, the list goes on and on and on.

Whatever happens, whatever tech comes along to "save us" all, it's only going to add to my cost of living.

lol, I don't wanna comes across as whiney, but this stuff gets to me. The older I get, the simpler I want my life to be. I don't know why, but its true.

Only 12.9% of our oil comes from the persian gulf (political reasons not needs) most of it comes from the US Canada and Latin America

A Liberal dream car......the rack on the trailer would be useful for hauling GAS cans.....or a big cooler of Stupid.....

There is not an infrastructure for hydrogen based. Costs were astronomical for Hydrogen fills.
GM had a research facility near my home town. Closed it.
Meanwhile Musk has been building his network. Now opening to other manufacturers next year, much to the chagrin of Tesla Owners. I have seen a 20 stall added into a 200 stall charging station.
I still say that guy doesnt have to build another car. He has the charging network wrapped up. JD Rockefeller of electric charging

There would be...
If Obama had not killed Bush's Hydrogen Fuel Initiative. The 2004 initiative called for a nationwide hydrogen infrastructure which would be ready by 2015.
Wikipedia doesn't even acknowledge the existence of the "Hydrogen Fuel Initiative" by name (I guess because it was a Republican initiative and we can't have people thinking Republicans might want to save the planet, now can we?) but it's still on the DOE website.
