So 1 in 4 UK Supermarket chooks contain the E Coli bacteria and if I remember correct most UK Eggs still contain Salmonella. I aint going to stop eating either but it is a fair response to reaffirm the need for us to have good hygiene and handling procedures with fresh foods.

Currently the wife now only buys COOP chickens for the oven because they come ready to cook in foil trays sealed in a cellophane oven ready bag so we dont actually have to touch the raw chicken. That is a GOOD hygiene protocol compounded by the fact Coop chickens are bother CHEAPER and much better tasting than Sainburys or Tescos offerings.

We are also considering poaching (pun intended) a practice used by a prepper family from Aberdeen who used to have a blog, they keep ALL uncooked meats in a totally separate fridge from the rest of their fresh foods such as milk, cheese, veg, yogurts, butter, fruit etc.

I think the Jews beat you to the meat and dairy seperate thing! :). Salmonella is luckily very easy to kill. Cooking it usually does fine. As you pointed out though, cross contamination can be a problem. Just being aware is half the battle.
