Depends really. If you are in a city, or unincorporated area, and what the existing laws are. In most cases, you are within your rights to destroy it, or seize it. Personally, I'm not a big fan of ticking off the neighbors, so I'd just follow it back to the source, and then have a conversation. (with the knowledge that any repeat of the action WILL result in the destruction of said drone, regardless of the law, to be honest). Just out of principle. The worst one would see is me and the wife naked in the pool (when it was up). Not that I'd care much, but she would, and nobody wants to see us anyhow....lol. Given the locked fences, and position of the pool, a drone is pretty much the only way you'd even see it.

That round will come down, with a possibility of hitting someone. So.no firearms. Maybe a crossbow if it'll shoot far enough,to at least hit it.that'll let the one operating it know.that their known about.

Round? I was thinking more like birdshot....

And where do you think that crossbow bolt is going? ;)

I think the legal recourse (shoot down / capture ) will depend on your location (city vs rural). If it is far enough into your rural property, then I think you can clay pigeon it. At the property line, then there will be questions. In the city , then your options will be greatly limited.

Something to consider is livestock. A drone can send a herd into a stampede. In many cases you can make a valid point of it being a threat to your animals. I'm not a fan of one being over my ranch, but I'd likely follow it back as others have said, & clearly state that next time it will be shot down.

Many of many home owners have criminally charged and prosecuted with a felony for shooting down or shooting at drones hovering over there property, almost all charges are similar "felony wanton endangerment and criminal mischief" how the Government views this "every inch above the tip of your grass blades is the government’s jurisdiction" the air space above your own grass is controlled by the FAA. Aerial boundary for landowners have never been settled by the Supreme Court.

If one must take action, The way I see it, Don't be seen, Don't get caught ;)

depends if its a "residential" drone or a military one, I heard the military ones fly at a much higher height no way could you shoot them down and that's the ones i'd be worried about not the one a neighbour is flying.
I have a drone recognition chart in my files which I have had for several years courtesy of another forum.

Yeah, you aren't doing anything much to a military drone.

sage advice. Though I'd still want to track down the source and have a convo first. (and if not a neighbor, things just got hairy)....

Theres a special shotgun round made to catch drones .

Skynet rounds. Neat idea (kind of like my net, shirt gun one), but in the end, not sure it's any more effective than birdshot, and at around $7 a round.....

Just something to remember. Almost all drone carry a camera and some of them are transmitting pictures back to the owner. If you "accidentally " are shooting towards a drone, you might be on candid camera. Tough to argue against video in court. If you happen to be shooting at a legal to shoot bird and the drone got in the way, oh well, Sh1t happens. Just have your story straight before the law arrives.

I do admit that drones are part of my preps for SHTF. Fly them high above FAA rules and they are very difficult to detect or shoot down. Preprogrammed flight paths varied to prevent following and it is a very useful tool. Equipped with IR camera and it will be difficult for intruders to sneak up on the homestead. This is not a cheap prep, a good drone will cost well in excess of $1,000, easily. Add in spare batteries, parts and a spare drone and you can spend above $3,000. Drones are highly vulnerable during take off and landing. Keep your flight schedule varied and unpredictable. Suggestion: Buy a cheap drone to practice with and develop you flying skills, nobody wants to crash a $2,000 drone.

If you are confronted with military type drones, it is time to bug out, because you have already lost you OPSEC. If your opponent has military drones, they will also have you severely out gunned. Discretion is the better part of valor. JM2C
