Maybe this is a stupid question but. . . .
We have seen China, Italy and many other countries infection rate going up fast with many deaths. In the US, our cases are rising, but at a slower rate because of Trump putting the travel restrictions in place way before the other countries along with other preventive measurements. So my question is this, do you think that we will see about the same infection rate percentage wise with the other countries, just at a slower rate. As in the US infection period will draw out a lot longer but since trying not to overwhelm our health services will (I hope) save so many more lives.
This is exactly what experts are predicting. They call it "flattening the curve" and say that while it might not prevent total number of cases it will prevent the healthcare system from becoming too overwhelmed and thereby prevent deaths. Hopefully it will help to prevent number of cases as well.

Italy's Daily infection rate and daily death rate both show signs of easing up finally, with a two day trend down. Still frightfully high though, as total deaths topped 6,000.

The number of people dying of COVID-19 in Italy each day is currently nearly half the number dying of all other causes combined. The down trend is encouraging, but what unfortunately may happen is things get better, so they ease restrictions and then it starts all over again, like in Hong Kong.

Italy may seize people's cars
Italy will today debate bringing in much tougher sanctions against people who flout lockdown laws, including the seizure of cars.

The government is also considering raising fines from the current 206 euros to as much as 3,000 euros for transgressions.

Under new restrictions announced at the weekend, people are supposed to stay in their municipality as much as possible. They are only allowed to travel for pressing needs such as going to work or buying medicine. Shopping must be done at the nearest food outlet.

Since the lockdown was imposed, police and soldiers have carried out two million spot checks on people, asking them where they are going and for what purpose. Of those, 92,000 were found to be flouting the law and charged.

Italy coffins piling up
In the northern town of Piacenza, there have been so many deaths that coffins are stacking up in the local crematorium. More than 300 people have died in the town and its surrounding area.

Around 100 coffins are piled up in the town's crematorium and there are another 40 being kept by a funeral company.

Piacenza is in Emilia-Romagna, one of the northern regions that has been worst affected by the Covid-19 crisis in Italy.

Last week a convoy of army trucks was sent to the city of Bergamo to take away coffins because the local morgue could not cope with all the dead. More than 60,000 people in Italy have been infected with the virus.

Italy's Daily infection rate still shows signs of easing off, but the daily death rate is back up again.

Damn, that death rate was looking really good.

I have a theory about why Italy looks so bad & Germany so good.

They say how heavy a virus load you get on day 1 can make the difference between your body getting overwhelmed and your body having time to respond and gently getting over it.

In Italy everyone kisses and hugs. Lots of touching. So the number of viruses transmitted can be huge. Meanwhile, in German, people barely shake hands. No back-pats, no hugs, not getting close to each other at all. A German might get 10 viruses, an Italian might get 10,000.

And look at other countries. Austria has low death rates, non-contact society. Spain has high death rates, very touch-hug-kiss society. I bet you can go country-by-county and see similar correlations. Some countries like the US are a mix of cultures, so it's harder to define it.

In the US, it would vary greatly by location. New Yorkers aren't exactly the huggy feely types, but the do get crammed together a lot.

Look at this list of the states with the least number of cases compared to the list of states with the least population density. The outlier is West Virginia, which we now know is because of the extreme difficulty in getting tested. (first confirmed case in WV had to get the US Senator from WV involved in order to get tested)

Rank.State.........Confirmed Cases
50...West Virginia.20
49...South Dakota..30
48...North Dakota..34
47...Alaska........36
46...Wyoming.......37
45...Montana.......46

Italian engineers help coronavirus patients by harnessing snorkel masks for CPAP machines
Speaking with Fox News, Romaioli said that Favero proposed an idea: making an “emergency ventilator mask” by modifying a snorkeling mask that was available to the public. The teams contacted Decathlon, the French sporting goods retailer, about the Easy Breath Surface Snorkeling Mask. Isinnova said that Decathlon immediately provided the 3D computer-aided design for the mask, so the engineers could easily evaluate what modification could be made.

Unlike the full ventilators, that breathe both in and out for a patient, Romaioli explained that these CPAP machines regulate the pressure and level of oxygen that go into the lungs.

From start to finish, the project took only three days, Romaioli said, after analyzing, measuring, 3D printing and testing various options. “We had to do it very quickly because it was a matter of saving lives. We didn’t do it as a usual project, where we would have had time to check it three, four times,” he said. “We just had to do it as quick as we could."
