I always camp near a flowing (and cold) water source (natural fridge). (I also always bring little trial size bottles of hygiene products, so I still smell nice). :D Just because I'm camping doesn't mean I need to be an animal. A lot of my prepping stems from the desire to ride out the SHTF and still maintain our humanity. (and I'd still rather clean a fish than some other kind of wild game while camping).

I usually hike a lot when camping, so you get pretty stinky quickly. Here in ga if you use soap in a stream they lock you up. There are more biodegradable products out there though. I remember one trip in n.c. That after three days I had to go and find a hot shower. There was a country store called mountain mammas that had shower sheds out back, was the best four dollars I ever spent! It was near the adriondiak trail, so I guess they got a lot of Trekkers. I used to camp in the keys on big pine key. I took a window ac for the tent, had blow up mattress, mini fridge, tv for the cable hookup, coffee pot, elec griddle, and so on. We really roughed it! The AC got a lot of snide comments, but a couple years later the campsites started charging extra for them as they became so popular. That is the kind of camping my wife likes.

My wife's idea of camping is in a campground....ugh.... We really have to do some camping sometime soon though. Some friends of ours recently got a camping trailer. We should fix up our horse trailer (it has a small living area, with bed, AC, mini-fridge, etc.) and go with them sometime.

I have thought bout buying a "retired" school bus and converting it into a motor home.

good idea if you prefer it over a motor home that needs restoring.on account they have a better body on them..but yet.if you get a motor home that needs restoring..then you not only able to restore it to your needs and like..you also have the undercarriage storage compartments as well..

Not to mention all the plumbing concerns... Doing that yourself would take some expertise...same with power concerns.

Not so much expertise even, but starting from scratch means you have to buy everything, vs repairing a few things. Not to mention if you ever try to sell it. It would take an ex hippie to want a converted school buss. (I can say that because I kind of am one!). But selling a camper is fairly mainstream and appealing to many more people.
