I love going camping! its great to get out and practice those skills we should all know, and have some of the niceties to back them up, especially when taking others. It's a less stressful way to get friends and family out to learn and practice those skills without tossing "doomsday" and "survival" around. it's also a good judge of character how people react to fires not getting lit, tents having trouble going up, foul weather, bugs, etc.

well, I just got back taking the 10 yr old boy and his 10 yr old mate ( buddy) camping - they had a 3 man tent with swags, I had a bivvy bag under a tarp. A small hot plate on legs for cooking, food, water, an old radio to listen to at night, cooking gear, food, water, a couple of .22s, targets, and a whole lotta rounds for them to fire away. Half of what we tok we never used - the cook loved it because we wore the same clothes for 3 days and she hardly had any washing to do when we got home - though there were no hugs till AFTER we showered.

Nah mate - no showers - we stunk of sweat, and smoke from the fire - but we all smelled the same so didn't care!!

All a bit wasteful, don't you think? Go camping with some reusable versions of these that you can wash off in the river or other water source. Should never bring disposable versions of these in the woods. I know you mentioned bringing trash bags too, but you know damn well that all of this isn't going to make it in the trash bags when the wind gusts and blows them everywhere.

yeah thats true about styrofoam.but that list was made up for every day camping in mind.and to me that means a campground with trash cans..but now the styrofoam stuff definitely wont work on hiking trips that last a day or longer.or after a shtf situation.and thats where the reusable items come in at for long term.

Campsites are good for when you get soooo smelly you need to take a shower, So I tend to do 3 days off road and 1 day on site then off road again. It's amazing how the body takes care of skin and hair when your off road. Although I love my nice smelling products and creams my skin feels better when I don't use them.

I smell nice honest I do honest!lol
